Utah Republican Gov. Spencer Cox has long been critical of former President Donald Trump, telling CNN host Kaitlin Collins earlier this month that Trump did not deserve his vote.

Yet in a startling move, Cox recently reversed that verdict and threw his support behind the former president.

Cox admits that Trump doesn't "need my help and support"

According to Just the News, the Utah governor made that announcement in a letter he posted to social media this past Friday.

"Mr. President, I know we have some differences, and you probably don't like me much. And that's OK," wrote to Trump.

"I'm not writing this letter looking for a position in your Cabinet or a role on your team. I have told everyone that you are going to win the state of Utah and you are going to win the presidency again. You don't need my help and support to do that," Cox acknowledged.

Governor praises Trump for attempting to "lower the temperature"

"However, you have a chance to do something that people have said is impossible," he continued before adding, "You have a chance to build a coalition of support that our country has not seen since Ronald Reagan."

Cox also addressed his change of attitude toward Trump during a press conference on Friday and cited the former president's Republican National Convention speech.

The governor told reporters that he was "grateful" that Trump had made a point of calling for unity and attempted to "lower the temperature."

"There’s a willingness to try. That's all I can ask for and hope for. So, I told him in that letter, I said if you'll do this, I will do everything I can to help and support you," Cox explained.

Biden ends campaign, endorses Kamala Harris

In his letter, Cox predicted that Trump "will win this election by an historic margin" if he treats "President Biden with basic human dignity and respect."

Yet the presidential race was thrown into uncertainty on Sunday when President Joe Biden announced that he will not be seeking another term in office.

Biden released a statement in which he called on Democrats to rally behind Vice President Kamala Harris, describing her selection as "the best decision I've made."
