Victim of Trump assassination attempt remains in critical condition
One of the rallygoers who was shot in the attempt on former President Donald Trump's life remains in the hospital.
The individual, according to Fox News, is 74-year-old James "Jim" Copenhaver, of Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
Copenhaver, according to the outlet, remains in the hospital and his condition has been described by the doctors as serious.
It has also been revealed that Copenhaver and his family received a surprise call from Trump this week.
"They were shocked"
Fox, on Saturday, reported that "Former President Trump on Thursday called the family of James Copenhaver." Unfortunately, though, it does not appear as though Trump was able to speak directly with Copenhaver.
The outlet reports:
Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township, was asleep when the call happened, but Trump will call again at a later time to speak with Copenhaver directly, according to Joseph Feldman, a spokesperson for the Copenhaver family and attorney for the Law Offices of Max C. Feldman.
It does, however, appear that Trump was able to speak with members of Copenhaver's family.
The family, afterward, said that they were "shocked by just how humble" Trump was on the phone. The family also described Trump as "very pleasant" and "respectful."
It is unclear whether, at the time of this writing, Trump has finally been able to connect with Copenhaver.
Trump prioritizes the victims
The assassination attempt has not only resulted in the injury of Trump, but it also resulted in the injury of at least two others and in the death of one.
The man who lost his life is 50-year-old Corey Comperatore. He was a volunteer firefighter from Buffalo Township, and he lost his life protecting his wife and daughters from the assassin's gunfire.
Reports indicate that Trump has been keeping close contact with all of the victims, including Comperatore's family.
Trump also paid tribute to Comperatore during the recently-held Republican National Convention, where Trump was named the Republican Party's presidential nominee. There, Trump said:
Tragically, the shooter claimed the life of one of our fellow Americans, Corey Comperatore, and seriously wounded two other great warriors... David Dutch and James Copenhaver. I spoke to all three families of these tremendous people—our love and prayers are with them, and always will be. Corey, a highly respected former fire chief... was accompanied by his wife Helen... and two precious daughters. He lost his life selflessly acting as a human shield to protect them from flying bullets... what a fine man he was.
Fox News reports, "Trump then walked over to Comperatore’s firefighting jacket and helmet, which were sent to the convention by the family and were placed next to Trump on the stage, asking for a moment of silence for the Pennsylvania father."
