A fake story about the arrest of a Colorado Supreme Court justice has gone viral.

Justice William Hood was one of the judges who voted to kick Donald Trump off the ballot for "insurrection."

A story claiming he was arrested was circulated by Real Raw News, a political satire website that publishes fake, outrageous stories about public figures being arrested or executed by the military.

Viral Trump rumor is false

The site published a story about U.S. Special Forces raiding the Florida home of Justice William Hood, one of the four judges who found Trump ineligible for the presidency in Colorado.

The article says Hood was taken captive while "hiding" from angry Trump supporters.

The story includes a false citation from General Eric M. Smith, who is a real general and commandant of the Marine Corps, as well as fake quotes from Justice Hood and FBI Director Christopher Wray.

The website includes a disclaimer that says it "contains humor, parody, and satire."

The story was a follow-up to another fake story about Marines arresting Justice Monica Marquez.

"Nothing about those claims is true – no members of the Colorado Supreme Court, nor any other Colorado judicial officers – have been arrested," Jon Sarché, the Deputy Public Information Officer of the Colorado Judicial Department said.

Trump warns of "bedlam"

While outlandish, the events of the Real Raw News story don't seem that far detached from America's increasingly chaotic reality.

The Colorado Supreme Court's 4-3 ruling disqualifying Trump was nothing short of extraordinary, and critics of the decision say it has opened up a political Pandora's box.

The court's ruling has been paused, for now, while Trump makes his appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, which is expected to render a decision sometime this year after hearing oral arguments on February 8. The decision is certain to be politically explosive.

President Trump asked the Supreme Court Thursday to put a "swift" end to various efforts countrywide to take him off the ballot, warning of "bedlam" if the ground-breaking precedent is not overruled.

"The Court should reverse the Colorado decision because President Trump is not even subject to section 3, as the president is not an 'officer of the United States' under the Constitution," his lawyers wrote.

"And even if President Trump were subject to section 3 he did not 'engage in' anything that qualifies as 'insurrection."
