Vivek Ramaswamy says he wants a running mate in "the mold" of Elon Musk
Former President Donald Trump seems increasingly likely to win the Republican Party's nomination, with most polls putting him well ahead of his rivals.
That fact hasn't stopped fellow candidate Vivek Ramaswamy from talking about what he would do as nominee, however, and that includes describing his running mate.
Ramaswamy wants someone in "the mold" of Elon Musk
According to Fox News, Ramaswamy addressed the issue while speaking with a voter at an event in Corydon, Iowa late last week.
When asked where he would search for a vice presidential candidate who "won't cut your legs off," Ramaswamy was quick to answer, saying, "Not in the pool of Washington, D.C."
"If you’re looking outside the pool, there’s 300 million mostly good people in this country … So, a lot of them are going to be outsiders," the businessman continued.
"I mean, an ideal vice president would be someone like an Elon Musk. Now, he wasn’t born in the country, so he can't, you know, but that’s the mold," Ramaswamy added.
Musk turned up at Ramaswamy fundraiser
Fox News noted that this was not the first time Ramaswamy has brought up Musk's name, as he also did so in October during an interview with Reuters.

Ramaswamy told the news service that the social media tycoon attended a fundraiser in Northern California, saying, "He showed up late at night and we had a conversation."
The Republican candidate added that he and Musk "are increasingly alone in this world as being free speech absolutists and that I think is different from a lot of people in both parties. I think that's something he and I see eye to eye on."
Donald Trump Jr. says his father won't pick Nikki Haley as VP
Ramaswamy is not the only one to discuss presidential running mates in recent days, as Donald Trump Jr. told Newsmax host Eric Bolling last week that Nikki Haley won't be on his father's ticket.
"I wouldn’t have her and I would go to great lengths to make sure that that doesn’t happen," the New York Post quoted Trump as saying of the former United Nations ambassador.
"Nikki Haley wants never-ending wars. She’s a puppet of the establishment in Washington, DC.," the former president's son declared.
"She’s the new favorite candidate of the billionaire class because they want control— no different than academia and Harvard and using their billions to exercise influence," he insisted.
