The 2024 Biden-Harris campaign is pulling out all the stops ahead of the election in making several moves that many critics claim is the equivalent of buying votes.

According to Yahoo News, the latest evidence of that came when VP Harris spoke with President Biden in Philadelphia in a speech aimed at Black voters.

Harris touted the administration's effort to essentially erase all medical debts from credit scores, which she says would allow for a massive change specifically in the Black community.

Notably, Biden and Harris are polling much worse in the Black community than they did in the lead-up to the 2020 election, which is why many believe the administration is doing everything it legally can to shore up lost support.

What did she say?

During the Philadelpha speech, Harris bragged on the administration's attempts "to address some of the biggest issues facing the Black community."

That's when she dropped the reminder about erasing medical debt from the records of millions of Americans' credit reports.

"We are now making it so medical debt can no longer be included on your credit score," VP Harris said, “so that medical debt cannot impact a person’s ability to get a car loan, an apartment lease, or a home loan."

While details of exactly how the administration will implement the changes, which will have wide-ranging implications for many millions of Americans, it will be headed up by the controversial Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). It was announced in September last year.

Yahoo noted:

At the time of the September announcement, the details of the new policy had yet to be developed by Chopra’s agency, but Harris promised that “these measures will improve the credit scores of millions of Americans so that they will better be able to invest in their future.”

Social media reacts

Harris's reminder of the plan to magically erase medical debt from credit reports generated mixed reactions across social media.

"This is such a half-baked “solution” that is only needed because we created $2 trillion of student debt," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "I guess that sounds good but it’s gonna make it harder for me to collect from deadbeat patients."

Only time will tell if the plan helps the Biden-Harris campaign garner the votes they're desperatley looking for.
