Hollywood actor Tom Hanks has little in the way of affection for President Donald Trump, suggesting last year that he represents a threat to democracy.

Yet in a development which left the president laughing, Hanks was recently dropped from being honored by West Point.

Award would have recognized Hanks as an "outstanding citizen"

According to Breitbart, Hanks had been set to be recognized by the alumni association of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Retired Army Col. Mark Bieger serves as president and chief executive officer of the West Point Association of Graduates, and he disclosed the change in an email sent to faculty on Friday.

Specifically, Bieger indicated that Hanks will no longer be receiving the Sylvanus Thayer Award, which is typically given to someone who has been deemed an "outstanding citizen."

"This decision allows the Academy to continue its focus on its core mission of preparing cadets to lead, fight, and win as officers in the world’s most lethal force, the United States Army," Bieger stated.

Actor portrayed Trump supporters as being racist in SNL segment

Breitbart pointed out how Hanks has a long history of attacking both the president as well those Americans who voted for him.

One example of that came this past February when Hanks wore a red MAGA hat during a "Saturday Night Live" appearance and refused to shake an African American man's hand.

Hanks' performance even brought public condemnation from Meghan McCain, who has herself been fiercely critical of the president.

"Tom Hanks always wants to pretend he’s the likable everyman but he’s as hate mongering of regular Americans as any host on [MSNBC]," McCain wrote in a social media post before adding, "Good luck becoming less and less culturally relevant by the second bro."

Trump celebrates cancellation, calls Hanks "woke" and "destructive"

NBC News reported that for his part, the president put out a Truth Social post on Monday which praised the West Point Association of Graduates for its decision.

"Our great West Point (getting greater all the time!) has smartly cancelled the Award Ceremony for actor Tom Hanks," Trump wrote.

"Important move! We don’t need destructive, WOKE recipients getting our cherished American Awards!!!" Trump went on to add.
