White House claims Trump's removal of Musk associate is not revenge
The White House of President Donald Trump is now saying that its decision to withdraw the nomination of Jared Isaacman to lead NASA has nothing to do with the breakup between Trump and Elon Musk, the Daily Caller reports.
This stands contrary to reports, such as this one from Axios, which claim that there is some connection between the Trump-Musk dispute and Isaacman's removal.
Isaacman himself has even weighed in on the situation. Take a look:
Any role my nomination played in these fireworks is minor and unimportant compared to what is at stake. What matters is reconciliation between the world’s greatest engineer and the leader of the free world. The country needs it...the world needs it.

The claim:
In case you missed it, President Trump recently surprised many by announcing that he was pulling Isaacman's nomination. The move came after it was discovered that Isaacman had, in the past, donated to Democrats.
At the time, though, there was widespread speculation about whether there might be more to this story. This is because Isaacman is linked to Elon Musk and, at the time, there were already rumors about a falling out between Trump and Musk.
Axios reports:
The sources familiar with the Trump-Musk relationship say there appeared to be four inflection points that led to his caustic attack on Trump's bill . . . 4. The final straw for Musk appeared to come Saturday night, when Trump abruptly announced he was withdrawing the nomination of Jared Isaacman, a Musk ally, to be NASA administrator.
Musk's attack on the bill was the starting point for the more recent escalation, which has saw Musk and Trump get personal.
The big question now, though, is whether this reporting from Axios is accurate.
The White House responds
The White House is claiming that the reporting from Axios and others is not accurate - that Trump did not get rid of Isaacman in revenge for his disagreement with Musk.
The Daily Caller reports:
White House sources tell the Daily Caller that the administration did not pull Jared Isaacman’s nomination to be administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as retaliation against Elon Musk.
The outlet goes on to cite its source as providing the real reason for the pulling of Isaacman's nomination.
It writes:
Instead, the sources claimed, Isaacman never should’ve been chosen in the first place due to his history of supporting Democrats and other left-wing causes like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Musk himself has not said much about this situation.
