According to the Washington Examiner, a lawyer who helped investigate former President Donald Trump's handling of classified documents is now working in the White House.

Previously employed by Delaware Democratic Sen. Chris Coons, Sophia Brill is said to have been "quietly hired" by the White House in April.

Critics slam "weaponized" justice system

The Examiner explained that between serving as senior attorney for Coons and taking her current position at the White House, Brill became senior counsel in the Department of Justice's National Security Division in 2021.

Brill's hiring was criticized as an example of politicization in the justice system, including by Karoline Leavitt, who is a spokeswoman for the pro-Trump super PAC Make America Great Again Inc.

"Joe Biden’s Administration is running a coordinated assault against their top opponent in the next election," Leavitt told the Examiner.

"Americans want a government that works for them, not one that is weaponized to take out Donald Trump — Joe Biden and the Democrats will pay for this in November 2024," she added.

Trump indicted on at least seven counts

Mike Davis is president of the conservative judiciary group Article III Project, and he offered a similar view, stating, "Sophia Brill is a Democrat operative who served as a political appointee to several Senate Democrats before joining Garland's investigation against Trump."

"It's very clear that Attorney General Merrick Garland's investigation of Trump has been political from Day One," Davis insisted.

Meanwhile, the investigation into Trump took a dramatic turn on Thursday evening when Fox News reported that the former president had been indicted.

While the indictment remains sealed, it is said to include at least seven counts involving obstruction of justice, conspiracy, and illegal retention of classified government material.

Trump: "I AM AN INNOCENT MAN!"

The network noted that Trump reacted by putting out a series of statements regarding the indictment on Truth Social.

He pointed out that "Joe Biden has 1850 Boxes at the University of Delaware, additional Boxes in Chinatown, D.C., with even more Boxes at the University of Pennsylvania, and documents strewn all over his garage floor where he parks his Corvette, and which is 'secured' by only a garage door that is paper thin, and open much of the time."

"I never thought it possible that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States, who received far more votes than any sitting President in the History of our Country, and is currently leading, by far, all Candidates, both Democrat and Republican, in Polls of the 2024 Presidential Election," he continued.

"I AM AN INNOCENT MAN!" the former president continued, adding, "This is indeed a DARK DAY for the United States of America. We are a Country in serious and rapid Decline, but together we will Make America Great Again!"
