Breitbart reported that following the public assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, one cable news anchor condemned him as a "divisive figure."

However, the White House and those who interacted with Kirk were quick to dismiss that characterization as fake.

MSNBC analyst accuses Kirk of promoting "hateful words" and "hateful actions"

Breitbart pointed out that the negative description of Kirk was provided on Tuesday by Katy Tur, who is host of MSNBC's "Katy Tur Reports."

"Charlie Kirk is a divisive figure, polarizing, lightning rod, whatever term you want to use," Tur remarked shortly after Kirk had been shot.

Tur was not alone in providing a dark assessment of Kirk, as MSNBC analyst Matthew Dowd took a similar approach, saying, "He’s been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups."

"And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. And I think that is the environment we are in," Dowd continued.

"You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place," the analyst added.

Tur and Dowd's perspective on Kirk clashed with the one put forward by columnist Gregory Lyakhov, who credited the slain activist with having "changed my life."

"For most of my life, I was the student who never fit in. I struggled for sixteen years, unable to finish books or focus on exams," Lyakhov recalled.

President Trump orders that all flags be flown at half-staff in Kirk's honor

"Teachers assumed I lacked motivation. Classmates believed I was lazy. In reality, I worked harder than anyone I knew, only to fall further behind," the columnist explained before explaining that Kirk's message "stood in sharp contrast to what I heard in school."

"He invited disagreement, demanded reasoning, and explained complex issues in ways that made sense to students my age," Lyakhov said of Kirk.

"While schools left students without even a basic grounding in history or economics, Kirk gave us what classrooms withheld—the opportunity to think independently," he added.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump responded to Kirk's murder by ordering that all American flags be flown at half-staff through Sunday in his honor.
