Most Democrats and liberals seem to be fully against President Donald Trump's mission to dismantle the Department of Education, but one high-profile Democrat seems to be an outlier on the issue.

According to Breitbart, "The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who is as anti-Trump as they come, seemed to not only agree with Trump's decision to get rid of the DoE, but essentially defended the decision.

Needless to say, her view on the subject took viewers and fans by surprise, and ABC even cut to commercial as she began to defend the decision.

As she was speaking to co-host Sunny Hostin, Goldberg called the Trump administration's decision to get rid of the DoE "a good thing."

What did she say?

During the back-and-forth with Hostin, Goldberg made her stance on the issue clear, and presumably shocked her army of anti-Trump supporters.

"Maybe some of what’s happening, like, you know, they’re trying to take apart the Department of Education," she told Hostin.

Goldberg seemed to be in favor of leaving education up to the individual state, as Trump and many Republicans also support. She made her argument clear.

"Maybe that is a good thing,” replied Goldberg, referencing the ending of the DoE.

She added, “'Because maybe it will force us to make sure that our kids actually get what they need. Maybe it’ll force us to go to our state and say, ‘Listen, I want to make sure, since you’re taking all this money from my taxes, I want to make sure that my kids get exactly what they need. I don’t have to wait for the government to do it.'”

Breitbart added:

“We can do it. This is now in our hands. This is in our hands, and it’s going to be tough. And nobody wants to do it because it’s a bitch. But you know what? If it comes down to your survival, this is what you got to do. You got to take care of what you got to take care of,” she continued.

Social media reaction

Many users across social media were surprised by Goldberg's stance.

"Didn't see that coming. It's hard to deny what a disaster our education system has become. We need a change," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "A broken clock is right twice a day. Nobody can hide from the fact that schools are failing our kids."
