Whoopi Goldberg tears up note from 'The View' producers after making Trump claim on air
Whoopi Goldberg tore up a note given to her by producers during Monday's episode of "The View" after she made a claim about President Donald Trump that they apparently considered potentially libelous.
Goldberg reacted to Trump's appearance on "60 Minutes" Sunday night, specifically the part of the interview where he admitted he didn't know who convicted former Binance CEO Changpeng 'CZ' Zhao was.
Trump had pardoned Zhao a few weeks earlier, with the White House issuing a statement blaming the Biden administration's "desire to punish the cryptocurrency industry" for the conviction.
The claim
Co-host Sunny Hostin asked, "How come you don't know who this guy is?"
That's when Goldberg chimed in, "Because he used an autopen!"
Hostin handed Goldberg a note a minute or two later that apparently asked her to clarify the statement about Trump.
After reading the note, Goldberg said, "What the hell? What? 'We don't know if Trump used an autopen to pardon.' It was a joke!"
"This is ridiculous"
She then complained, "Oh, come on!" before ripping the note to shreds. "Well, I’m sorry. The hardest thing about this job now is no one understands nuance."
She continued, "You know when you hear a joke, when somebody’s fooling around, when they’re not saying something specific. Especially on this show, I’m very specific when I’m…pointing stuff out. When I’m making jokes, you know when I’m making jokes!"
'This is ridiculous,' Goldberg concluded.
It seems that ABC is a bit gunshy after shelling out $16 million to Trump for its deceptive editing of a Kamala Harris interview that made her flubbed answer look better than it was right before the election.
Who can blame them?
Tone it down
The network already asked "The View" co-hosts back in May to tone down the constant criticism of Trump.
Not only that, but the appearance of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) will be the first conservative to be on the show all year.
Former President Joe Biden, Harris, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-MN), House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY), former President Bill Clinton, and Democratic senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Chuck Schumer (NY), and Elissa Slotkin ( (NY) have all appeared this year, among others.
The left-wing bias is overwhelming, but no one is really watching anymore anyway. There's been speculation that ABC will soon pull the plug on "The View" because of its bias and dismal ratings, which would probably be a blessing for everyone involved at this point.
