The Washington Examiner reported last week that Wisconsin Republicans are attempting to remove their state's top election officials.

According to the paper, Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Meagan Wolfe has been accused of favoring Democrats in the 2020 election.

GOP allegations concern Wolfe's conduct during the 2020 election

What's more, Republicans also maintain that Wolfe acted improperly when she distributed absentee ballots during the COVID-19 pandemic. For her part, Wolf has denied engaging in any wrongdoing.

"It’s hard to believe that we’re still at a place where those now very well-analyzed and debunked claims about our system seem to still be driving decisions that are being made," ABC 27 quoted her as saying at a press conference.

"I've learned that when politicians on either side of the aisle are upset with me, it's usually because I will not bend to political pressure," she added.

The Examiner noted that Wolfe's impeachment resolution is the work of five Republican lawmakers, who first raised the prospect of removing her in September.

Assembly speaker filed a lawsuit arguing that Wolfe's appointment was illegitimate

Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos was initially cool to the idea of impeaching Wolfe, instead filing a lawsuit which argued that her appointment was illegitimate.

"There’s no need to do an impeachment because she’s not there lawfully. We need to follow the law and see what the actual rulings are from the court," Vos said in October according to CBS News.

Vos also sounded reticent in a statement put out on Thursday after a court ruled late last week that Wolfe must remain in place while the matter is being litigated.

"Whether we like the result or not, a Dane County judge has issued a ruling saying we cannot remove Meagan Wolfe at least until the court issues a final ruling," he said.

Group is threaten to recall speaker unless he backs Wolfe's removal

"I think she should be replaced, but we now have to wait for the court process to work," the assembly speaker went on to add.

Vos also addressed advertisements that have been aired by an organization called the Wisconsin Election Committee, Inc.

The ads are threatening to launch a recall effort against Vos if he does not get behind efforts aimed at impeaching Wolfe.

"The people running these ads are obviously from out-of-state since anyone living in Wisconsin would know of recent events," he asserted while accusing the group of being "uninformed."
