According to a spokesman for the show, George Gilbey of Gogglebox has passed away at the age of forty.

After appearing on the Channel 4 series alongside his mother Linda McGarry and stepfather Pete McGarry, who passed away at the age of 71 in 2021, the reality star gained the most notoriety for his participation in the show, as The Guardian reported.

In 2014, he also participated in the fourteenth season of Celebrity Big Brother, where he made it all the way to the final.

After the Event

Following an accident that occurred at work on Wednesday, Gilbey allegedly passed away. The following statement was made by a representative of the Channel 4 show: “George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and stepdad Pete.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda and George’s family and friends at this very sad time. The family have asked for privacy.”

Essex Police stated that they were called to an incident that occurred on Wednesday in Shoeburyness, which is located in Southend-on-Sea. The incident included a man who had died as a result of falling from a great height, according to a spokeswoman for the force.

“We received a report of an incident at Campfield Road in Shoebury at around 10am this morning (27 March), during which a man who was working at height had fallen and sustained an injury.

“The ambulance service, including air ambulance, were in attendance. Sadly, the man died at the scene. We will continue liaising with partners, including the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). A cordon remains in place at the scene.”

Other Celebrities Reaction

Ricci Guarnaccio, who appeared alongside Gilbey on Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, referred to his former co-star and friend on X, former Geordie Shore, as "accident at work." In a subsequent post, Guarnaccio paid tribute to Gilbeyand.

He said: “Breaks my (heart) but you are well and truely (sic) going to be missed my friend. Always lit up the room, cared for others & the memories we made I’ll cherish for ever brother. From CBB to speaking to you last week, I’m going to hugely miss you”

In 2013, Gilbey became a part of the program that won multiple awards for its second season. However, in 2014, he and his family were removed from the program since he had signed up for his participation in Celebrity Big Brother. Subsequently, the family made a comeback to the series.

The Essex reality star made an appearance on the reality show that was broadcast on Channel 5 at the time.

Other celebrities who participated on the show were Stephanie Pratt, who starred in The Hills, and Gary Busey, an American actor who ultimately won the series.

Representatives of Gilbey and the Health and Safety Executive have been contacted for comment.
