X post from Newsom's press office read like a threat against DHS Sec. Kristi Noem
While we celebrate his life, courage, and legacy, Charlie Kirk's assassination has left a feeling of uneasiness across the political spectrum, especially on the Republican side of the aisle.
That's why it was no laughing matter when Gov. Gavin Newsom's press office sparked major concerns from all levels of the Republican Party and conservatives across the country after a social media post made by his office seemed to suggest a nasty threat.
According to Breitbart, the governor's press office posted that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem was "going to have a bad day," just ahead of the weekend dedicated to celebrating Kirk's life.
The X post prompted a referral to the U.S. Secret Service for a threat assessment, the report noted.
What's going on?
In a bizarre and concerning X post, Gov. Newsom's press office wrote, "Kristi Noem is going to have a bad day today. You’re welcome, America."
Given the timing and the dangerous realities on the ground as a political appointee or office-holder, it's not something to joke about, which Newsom's office quickly realized in the wake of writing the ridiculous post.
“We have zero tolerance for direct or implicit threats against government officials. I’ve referred this matter to @SecretService and requested a full threat assessment," Bill Essayli, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, wrote.
Daily Wire host Matt Walsh pointed out another startling reality, writing, "This is, nearly verbatim, what multiple accounts on this site were tweeting about Charlie prior to his assassination."
Others labeled the post as "psychopathic behavior" coming from the California governor's office.
"This is ugly, @GavinNewsom. Your keyboard warrior team may hide behind their laptops and spew this kind of vitriol but you would never have the guts to say this to her face," wrote Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security.
Others chimed in
Many others weighed in on the X post, pointing out that the timing was poor, to say the very least.
"To make a threat like this, especially on the memorial weekend for Charlie, is beyond the pale and totally disgusting. This is what happens when Gavin Newsom lets deranged Leftist lunatics post messages on his behalf," Steven Cheung, White House Director of Communications, wrote.
Later in the day, Newsom's office didn't retract the post. As a matter of fact, they doubled down on it.
Breitbart noted:
Three hours later, Newsom’s press office doubled down by quote-tweeting the “bad day” post with a picture of a press release stating: “Today: Governor Newsom signs a historic legislation package to protect immigrant communities, hold Trump accountable.”
