Self-described socialist Zohran Mamdani called out President Donald Trump last week shortly after being elected to lead America's biggest city.

However, more recent remarks from New York City's incoming mayor suggests that his anti-Trump bravado is breaking down.

Mamdani "will be reaching out to the White House"

According to the New York Post, Mamdani adopted a more reconciliatory tone when speaking with NBC New York on Tuesday.

"I will be reaching out to the White House as we prepare to actually take office," said Mamdani, who acknowledged that having a relationship with the White House "will be critical to the success of the city."

"[If] President Trump wants to speak about lowering the cost of living or delivering cheaper groceries, like he ran on [in 2024], I’m there to have that conversation," the mayor-elect continued.

"I'm here to work for the benefit of everyone that calls the city home, and that wherever there is a possibility for working together toward that end, I’m ready, and if [the administration’s policies] are to the expense of those New Yorkers, I will fight," he went on to add.

Trump previously threatened to without money from New York

Breitbart reported that on election day, the president suggested in a post to his Truth Social platform that he might withhold federal funds from New York should Mamdani get elected.

"If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!" Trump asserted.

"It can only get worse with a Communist at the helm, and I don’t want to send, as President, good money after bad," the president added.

Yet the Post noted that Trump took a softer line following Mamdani's victory, telling Fox News anchor Bret Baier, "I want to make the city succeed.

Nevertheless, he warned that the mayor-elect "has to be a little bit respectful of Washington because if he’s not, he doesn’t have a chance of succeeding."

Florida realtors seen surge in interest from New Yorkers

Some New York residents are worried about the future of their city, with Breitbart observing how realtors in Florida have seen an explosion of business in the weeks leading up to Mamdani's election victory.

Isaac Toledano is CEO of the Miami-based BH Group, and he explained that his company has recently "closed more than $100 million in signed contracts from New York buyers."

"I think the election accelerated how people make decisions. I think people are nervous [for] what’s coming, how it’s going to affect their lifestyle, the quality of life, taxes, potential of crime [or] no crime," Toledano speculated.

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
