Arizona House candidate says she was raped while repairing campaign signs overnight

Democratic Arizona congressional candidate Bernadette Greene-Placentia says she was knocked unconscious and raped while fixing a campaign sign at 2 a.m., an account she delayed reporting before going public.

The Post reported that Greene-Placentia, the Democratic nominee in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District, described an early-morning assault in a Sun City parking lot while she tried to repair a damaged campaign sign.

She is a long-haul trucker challenging incumbent Rep. Abraham Hamadeh, R-Ariz. Her campaign told The Guardian the attack happened early on Aug. 14. She later told police and went public with the account.

Greene-Placentia said she often went out at night to fix signs, sometimes with her husband, to avoid Arizona’s daytime heat. That night she said she was knocked unconscious. When she came to, she said her pants were half-off and a man was raping her.

She said a second man then tried the same. She kicked at him. He walked away muttering that she was “not even worth it.” She also said she heard the first man call her a “bitch” and “not a very good f, k.”

She waited weeks before filing a police report

Greene-Placentia told Fox News the assault occurred around 2 a.m. on Aug. 14. Afterward she sequestered herself in her apartment and went “missing in action” from campaign work.

Two days later she told her husband and staff. She said she waited another two weeks to contact police because she was embarrassed. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a report was filed on Aug. 31.

A police report seen by the Phoenix New Times said she bled vaginally for three days after the attack. The sheriff’s office declined further comment, citing an “ongoing investigation.” No arrests have been announced.

Similar Arizona political crime stories have drawn attention before, including when Kyrsten Sinema’s ex-bodyguard faced a felony charge tied to property destruction at her home.

Breitbart reported Greene-Placentia is 52. She told investigators she felt an attacker’s weight, had bruises and a bump on her head, and tried to fight back by kicking. She said she believed one attacker used an expletive that referenced her political party, linked to the campaign shirt she was wearing.

She also said she showered and washed her clothes before eventually reporting the crime. Memory of the night, she said, comes only in fragments.

"It’s just these little tiny flashes of things that I do remember. As much as I don’t want to remember, I’ve tried very, very hard to remember more stuff. But that’s where I’m at."

She told the Phoenix New Times she initially “just wanted to forget it.”

Hamadeh calls for a full investigation

Rep. Abe Hamadeh responded after reading the account. He called the story disturbing and urged authorities to investigate the allegations thoroughly, saying no American should become a victim of crime in their own community.

"I have read the disturbing story and call upon authorities to investigate these serious allegations thoroughly. No American should become a victim of a crime in their own community."

House races already carry heavy midterm pressure, and House leadership has branded some rising far-left Democrats as out of step with core American priorities heading into the cycle.

The Washington Examiner noted she is the Democratic candidate for the 8th District and described the alleged rape as occurring around 2 a.m. on a Friday in August in a parking lot while she repaired campaign signs as part of a nighttime routine.

Greene-Placentia framed her decision to speak publicly as a message to other women. She said campaigns ask people to donate, volunteer, and step into discomfort, so she felt she had to do the same.

"I need to let women know that it’s okay to talk about it. We’re asking people to stand up and donate or volunteer. We’re asking those folks to be uncomfortable... then I have to be willing to be uncomfortable too."

In a separate statement carried by Fox News, she said she never imagined having to tell the story but wanted survivors to know they are seen, heard, and not alone.

She also told the Associated Press she now has more empathy for why so many women do not come forward, and she hopes her account encourages them.

Political misconduct stories keep surfacing on the left side of the aisle, from a California Democrat’s high-paid chief of staff facing HR complaints after a crude attack on a journalist to other Capitol Hill flare-ups.

Earlier coverage on this site also tracked how an Arizona Democrat running for Congress alleged rape while fixing campaign signs at 2 a.m., underscoring the same core claims now circulating nationally.

Vulnerable House Democrats have already broken with party orthodoxy under midterm strain, including on a women’s sports vote as election pressure mounts. Greene-Placentia’s race against Hamadeh now carries an open criminal investigation alongside the usual campaign grind.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed only that the Aug. 31 report exists and that the probe continues. No suspect names, forensic findings, or charging decisions have been released publicly.

Crime does not check party labels at the door. Serious sexual-assault claims belong in the hands of investigators who follow evidence, not talking points, until the record is clear.
