DANIEL VAUGHAN: Democrats Bury #MeToo While Defending Graham Platner
Here's a term from what feels like a prior age: Believe all women. It was the height of the #MeToo movement, and all it took on social media those days was for a woman to accuse a man of anything, and his career and life were basically done. That had both good and bad elements; we had to unearth a lot of the bad at the time. But it's pretty clear the loudest adherents to that no longer believe it.
Case in point, we have this week the campaign of Nazi-tattoo aficionado Graham Platner, who is fighting off an array of accusations from women across the state of Maine. It's always the people you most suspect: the slovenly dressed guy always saying the Nazi tattoo he's covering up isn't what it appears.
Platner's Story Implodes
The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times released dueling stories this week, sending the Platner campaign into damage-control mode. The Times reported that Platner's own wife alerted the campaign that he had been sending explicit messages to other women just months into their marriage. The Times reported that about a dozen women were involved, with Platner admitting only half that.
The Journal added that Platner's posts go with his deleted Reddit profile, where he denigrated veterans, women, and more. And also, Platner has an active profile on the messaging platform Kik, "a popular, private messaging app. Platner's profile shows a mirror selfie of him shirtless with a towel wrapped around his waist. Many of his tattoos are clearly visible in the picture."
Interestingly, if you've seen the photos of Platner on the Kik platform, he is noticeably using his phone to cover up the location of his Nazi tattoo on his chest. Various states and child exploitation activists have tried to shut down Kik in recent years, charging it as nothing more than a child predator app.
Platner started using the app in 2016. He claims he doesn't use the platform anymore, but his profile is still set to active on it. You can be the judge of whether you believe he's actually deactivated the account.
Journalists Rush To Defend Platner
He and his campaign trotted out his poor wife to try to explain things. It didn't do much because we're staring at a situation where Platner's former campaign manager - a woman - and now the women accusing him, are all lining up on the other side of this debacle for the radical Maine socialist.
Journalists in the national media have rushed to defend Platner, attacking not him, but rather the former campaign manager. Notably, this is the exact strategy the Platner campaign is pursuing. They allegedly tried to force that campaign manager to sign an NDA, and after she refused, they threatened to attack her.
We have a female campaign manager saying Platner is trash. Multiple women, according to both The New York Times and Wall Street Journal, and videos with Platner and his wife that look closer to hostage videos.
In short, there's not a lot of belief in women with these reports. You can find Democrats and their lackeys at places like The Bulwark trotting out phrases like "youthful" indiscretions, which might make sense if we weren't talking about a guy with an active Kik profile, a recently deleted Reddit profile, and a marriage on the rocks on all these items just in the last few years.
This Is Who Platner Is
This is Graham Platner now. He had that Nazi tattoo on his body for two decades. He was hiding it in recent profile pictures, and walking around shirtless in others. The man knew what it was and still went on with his life.
The Democrat line on Platner is that not only are we not supposed to believe women, but you also can't believe your eyes, ears, or the things Platner has said himself. If the playbook sounds familiar, it is: it's the Biden health and age cover-up, which we're getting reminded of right now thanks to Jill Biden.
Democrats made a national case out of whether or not Donald Trump called dead soldiers "suckers and losers" - a claim for which we still have no proof. Yet Platner was saying worse things himself and signing his name to it on massive social media platforms.
The Biden Playbook 2.0
The only thing you can believe if you're looking at Democrats on this issue is their talking points. You can't believe women, or anyone else. And you especially can't believe what Platner has said - you can only trust what he has to say in the last six months. This is the "real Platner," who has finally learned all the lessons and can be trusted.
Here's the most embarrassing part about the entire Platner debacle for Democrats: this is not even the worst of it yet. The leaks and damage that Platner is taking right now are coming from his own campaign and Maine Democrats who hate his guts. Republicans are just adding all this to the ledger for what comes in the fall.
Worse things are coming for Platner. And if you don't believe that, realize you're expecting that we've finally hit rock bottom for the dude with a covered-up Nazi tattoo, poor impulse control, and a lifetime of saying certifiably insane things.
Graham Platner is who he appears to be, and nothing Democrats say can change that reality. If Democrats can't believe women anymore, maybe we should just take Graham Platner at his word and actions. Those speak louder anyway. But come fall, all the people Platner has harmed will start coming out of the woodwork and appearing on a television ad near you.
This is only the beginning for the Platner campaign.
