Mayra Flores hospitalized hours after announcing candidacy for House seat
Former Republican Rep. Mayra Flores shocked her supporters this week after it was revealed that she was hospitalized just hours after announcing her intentions to run for a Texas House seat.
According to reports, her campaign confirmed in a statement that she had been hospitalized following the announcement, but failed to disclose any additional details regarding why.
Flores has the title of being the first Mexico-born member of Congress, having won a special election in 2022 during which she replaced Democratic Rep. Filemon Vela Jr., who had retired.
Her victory was notable, as she flipped the state's 34th Congressional District red for the first time in a decade.
What's happening?
Flores' campaign released a statement updating her supporters on her situation.
"Former and future Congresswoman Mayra Flores, a devoted conservative fighting corruption in Texas's 28th District, has been hospitalized. During this challenging time, we humbly ask for your prayers and support. We pray that Mayra will return stronger than ever, ready to continue her unwavering commitment to serving our country.
They added, "Mayra's passion for building a brighter future for our children, grandchildren, and generations to come is at the heart of everything she does. Guided by faith and determination, she remains steadfast in her mission during this critical moment.
I am deeply honored to announce my candidacy for Congress—a chance to serve the people and uphold the values that make our nation great. This campaign is driven by a love for our country and a commitment to fight for justice, opportunity, and unity for all. To carry this vision… https://t.co/kMqeSWWcuV

"Thank you for standing with her," it read.
The outlet noted:
Flores said in an interview with Fox News Digital that she hopes to become one of the few voices that can represent the Spanish-speaking community and tell them about the "amazing work President Trump is doing, and his administration."
"And that's something that I feel I'm obligated to do, because there's a lot of misinformation being spread from the left, and they're trying to instill fear and hate in the Hispanic community," the former congresswoman said.
