Supreme Court says Trump can end legal protections for Venezuelan migrants
The justices of the U.S. Supreme Court just gave President Donald Trump the okay to end the Temporary Protected Status of Venezuelan migrants.
The Associated Press reports that the justices released their decision on Friday.
The final vote was 6 to 3, with the court's three Democrat-appointed justices dissenting.

Supreme Court grants Trump's request
The decision, according to the Associated Press, will affect about 300,000 Venezuelan migrants.
Per the outlet:
The Supreme Court on Friday allowed President Donald Trump’s administration to strip legal protections from more than 300,000 Venezuelan migrants. The justices issued an emergency order, which will last as long as the court case continues, putting on hold a lower-court ruling by U.S. District Judge Edward Chen in San Francisco that found the administration had wrongly ended temporary protected status for the Venezuelans. The three liberal justices dissented.
Newsmax provides the background of the case.
The outlet reports:
The procedural move granting protection was set up by the previous administration of Democrat President Joe Biden. Then the coverage period was extended just before President Donald Trump's January 2025 inauguration. The Trump administration believes that it was an improper and politically motivated workaround to the nation's immigration process. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem blocked the Biden-era allowance, a move quickly challenged in the courts.
Now, the Supreme Court is signaling that Trump is on the right side of the law here.
Trump admin. celebrates
President Trump and his administration celebrated the high court's decision shortly after its publication.
Assistant Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Tricia McLaughin released a statement on the matter.
"President Trump is restoring America's immigration system so that it actually benefits the U.S. citizen and today's Supreme Court victory is a win for the American people and common sense," she said.
McLaughin continued:
The American people should not have had to go to the Supreme Court twice to see justice done. Temporary Protected Status was always supposed to be just that: Temporary. Yet, previous administrations abused, exploited, and mangled TPS into a de facto amnesty program. Meanwhile, the Biden administration allowed millions of unvetted illegal aliens into our country exacerbating the issue and endangering all Americans. Now, that it’s clear the law and the American people are on our side, Secretary Noem will continue to use every tool at our disposal to prioritize the safety of all U.S. citizens.
In other words, the Supreme Court just gave the green light to a key component of Trump's immigration agenda.
