Trump backs away from National Guard presence in Chicago but ICE raids escalate
Apocalypse later?
Just days after warning he would take over Chicago with a meme inspired by the movie Apocalypse Now, President Trump is reportedly changing plans and will instead send troops to a city that actually wants help fighting crime.
As the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
If Democrats want to force their residents to keep living in war zones - well, that's on them.
Backing off Chicago
Here's what Attorney General Pam Bondi had to say on Fox the other night:
“They are a progressive city, and they don’t want the president’s help. That’s on them,” Bondi said of Chicago on Tuesday night. “Chicago should be begging Donald Trump for help to keep Chicago safe — yet they aren’t. So we’re going to a city who wants us there.”
Trump had repeatedly suggesting sending troops to crime-ridden Chicago, over the objections of woke anti-police mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois' governor, J.B. Pritzker (D), who has fought tooth and nail to protect illegal aliens in his "sanctuary" state.
Days ago, Trump sent the left into hysterics with an Apocalypse Now-inspired meme that showed him dressed up in military garb with the caption, "I love the smell of deportations in the morning," a riff on a famous quote from the movie.
"The President’s threats are beneath the honor of our nation, but the reality is that he wants to occupy our city and break our Constitution," Johnson wrote. "We must defend our democracy from this authoritarianism by protecting each other and protecting Chicago from Donald Trump."
ICE operations
It appears that Trump's takeover has been cancelled, for now, but the president still wants to help Chicago residents out.
The Department of Homeland Security says several heinous thugs have been arrested in a new immigration roundup in Chicago, Operation Midway Blitz.
"In just the last few days in Chicago, ICE has arrested pedophiles, rapists, abusers, armed robbers, and other violent thugs. These are the criminal illegal aliens Governor Pritzker, Mayor Johnson, and their fellow sanctuary politicians protect over the law-abiding American citizens," said Assistant Secretary at DHS Tricia McLaughlin.
Meanwhile, Trump has teased that the next target of his crime crackdown could be New Orleans. The governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry (R), has said he is willing to cooperate on crime, Trump says.
“We’re going to be announcing another city that we’re going to very shortly. We’re working it out with the governor of a certain state that would love us to be there and the mayor of a certain city in the same state. We’ll announce it probably tomorrow.”
