Trump rally near-assassination won't keep him from RNC in Milwaukee

Trump, who was shot at a rally less than 24 hours ago, will be heading to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at 3:30 pm ET, according to his Sunday announcement, as The New York Post reported.

“Based on yesterday’s terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a ‘shooter,’ or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else," Trump said in a Truth Social post.

"Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee, as scheduled, at 3:30 P.M,” he added.

However, the reality that the former president was shot will hang over the convention, which will cause significant changes to take place.

The Convention

The Republican National Convention will continue as planned this week, despite the fact that an attempt was made to kill Donald Trump.

Local law enforcement and the Secret Service were already planning to closely monitor the Fiserv Forum's perimeter, where the convention is taking place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The shooting at Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday night, prompted an immediate update and increase in security measures in the Milwaukee area.

The perimeter where permit holders are required to produce identification has been enlarged, and additional changes have been made to ensure that the former president remains safe during the event.

Advice to Employees

Those working for the former president's campaign in Florida and Washington, DC were also warned to "stay away from the office" in a note that was sent by Trump aides Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, who are keeping an eye on the issue.

The memo reiterated that the convention "will continue as planned," but it failed to address the issue of heightened security measures for campaign staffers at the RNC.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old local, was perched on a rooftop close to the campaign rally on Saturday night when he shot Trump. Along with killing a male rallygoer, he shot Trump in the top of his right ear.

Agents from the Secret Service then shot Crooks to death in a matter of seconds.

Shooting Details

Based on the close proximity of the bullet to Trump's skull, several analysts believe that the former president spared his own life by quickly turning his head to gaze at a jumbotron.

Trump dove and touched his face as he took a hit; Secret Service members then shielded him.

Trump was put into an SUV and sent to a nearby hospital for a medical examination; afterward, he was discharged.

Secret Service Detail

According to those familiar with the matter who spoke with The Post, Trump's Secret Service detail is far less than President Biden's because Trump is not in office at the moment. Extra security detail requests for him are commonplace in his campaign.

Following Sunday's shooting, Biden reportedly ordered the Secret Service to increase security measures to ensure that Trump is protected by every "resource, capability and protective measure" available.

Those close to the issue have claimed that the president has also instructed the chief of the Secret Service to assess the safety of the Republican National Convention.
