Trump releases Epstein files, predicts disclosure will 'backfire' on Democrats

President Trump has signed a bill ordering the release of the so-called Epstein files, predicting the disclosure would "backfire" on Democrats who have spent months clamoring for the documents.

The move is a victory for MAGA supporters who have long suspected the truth about Epstein has been kept hidden by a shadowy cabal of elites. In recent months, Democrats have sought to weaponize MAGA's distrust to drive a wedge between Trump and his base.

"Perhaps the truth about these Democrats, and their associations with Jeffrey Epstein, will soon be revealed, because I HAVE JUST SIGNED THE BILL TO RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES," Trump posted on Truth Social. "At my direction, the Department of Justice has already turned over close to fifty thousand pages of documents to Congress."

Trump releases Epstein files

Trump, who was friends with Epstein in the distant past, has dismissed the continued focus on the deceased sex offender as a Democrat "hoax" meant to distract from Trump's achievements. By making the documents public, Trump hopes to put to rest a political saga that has absorbed Washington D.C. since July, when the Justice Department released a controversial memo that formally shut down popular right-wing theories about Epstein, a convicted sex trafficker who died by suicide in prison.

The effort to release the files had mostly been backed by Democrats and a handful of Republicans who have been critical of Trump, like Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). The momentum shifted quickly after Trump finally urged Republicans in Congress to release the files, saying he has nothing to hide.

The Epstein Transparency Act passed the Senate unanimously on Wednesday, just a day after it cleared the House in a 427-1 vote.

“As everyone knows, I asked Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, to pass this Bill in the House and Senate, respectively,” the president added. “Because of this request, the votes were almost unanimous in favor of passage.”

Turning tables on Dems

At Trump's direction, attorney general Pam Bondi has been ordered to release all unclassified files, and any classified info to the maximum extent possible, within 30 days. Trump is warning the push for transparency will embarrass Democrats, who have spent months attacking Trump with cherry-picked evidence while ignoring their own party's extensive web of connections to Epstein.

For instance, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee recently shared e-mails from Epstein's estate that mentioned Trump, but a more complete document dump uncovered a real-time text exchange between Epstein and Virgin Islands Delegate Stacey Plaskett (D) during a 2019 congressional hearing. Democrats also invited Epstein to a 2013 fundraiser with now-House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-Ny.).

"Jeffrey Epstein, who was charged by the Trump Justice Department in 2019 (Not the Democrats!), was a lifelong Democrat, donated Thousands of Dollars to Democrat Politicians, and was deeply associated with many well-known Democrat figures, such as Bill Clinton (who traveled on his plane 26 times), Larry Summers (who just resigned from many Boards, including Harvard), Sleazebag Political Activist Reid Hoffman, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (who asked Epstein to donate to his Campaign AFTER Epstein was charged), Democrat Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett, and many more," Trump wrote.

"This latest Hoax will backfire on the Democrats just as all of the rest have! Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump concluded in his post.

Shifting the goalposts

The document release allows for certain material to remain secret, such as victims' information, child sexual abuse material, and anything that could impact an active investigation.

These caveats appear likely to prolong the Democrats' efforts to accuse Trump of a cover-up, and indeed, Democrats are already suggesting that some sinister effort is underway to hide the full truth.

Whatever comes to light, it appears doubtful Democrats will emerge unscathed. It is likely just a matter of time before they change the subject and move on to their next "hoax."
