The Republican National Committee (RNC) headquarters had quite the scare this week after receiving a bizarre package in the mail.

According to Fox News, the RNC HQ was evacuated temporarily after workers opened up a package containing vials of blood, reportedly addressed to former President Donald Trump.

U.S. Capitol Police had to call in its Hazardous Incident Response Division to inspect the suspicious packages.

A heavy police presence surrounded the RNC headquarters after the package was reported. Hazmat vehicles were also spotted in front of the building.

What's going on?

Given the RNC headquarters's location next to the U.S. Capitol, Capitol Police had jurisdiction over the situation and released a statement explaining what happened.

"This morning, we responded to the 300 block of First Street, SE, for the report of a suspicious package. The package was cleared by our Hazardous Incident Response Division. It contained two vials of blood. The source of the package & its contents will be further investigated," the Capitol Police wrote on its X account.

In addition to the hazmat teams, other special units, such as K-9 and bomb squad units, were also dispatched to the building. DC Metro Police and EMS were also on scene for assistance.

RNC Chair Michael Whatley released a statement on the bizarre and scary situation.

"We remain unintimidated and undeterred in our efforts to elect President Trump to the White House," Whatley said.

Authorities are still unsure of the sender of the package and the motive. Further tests on the blood will be conducted in order to determine if there was a biological attack element involved.

"Yet again, what is wrong with people?! Under Biden's reign things just keep getting worse & the wrong behavior of people goes unpunished. There are no deterrents any longer, when we obviously need more for actual criminals based on their acts. It's pretty simple & logical," one X user wrote.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt. Hopefully, this isn't the start of what's to come leading up to the November election.
