While President Joe Biden isn't in the headlines much in the wake of his ouster from the presidential race, don't worry, he's still out there making awkward moments for everyone.

According to the New York Post, at a recent Clinton Global Initiative event attended by First Lady Jill Biden, the elderly president was surprised by being invited onto the stage to accept an award.

When he was presented the award, with Bill and Hillary Clinton standing close, the elderly president told Hillary "I love you."

President Biden also awkwardly suggested that he had been "trapped" in being invited onto the stage by his wife.

What happened?

President Biden had been in attendance at the Clinton-hosted event in support of his wife, but at one point during the speech, he was called up to the stage to accept a Global Citizen award. That's when the elderly president gushed over Hillary Clinton and thanked her for supporting him publicly.

As he made his way to the stage, Joe Biden said, "This is what you call being trapped."

He proceeded to thank Hillary Clinton and told her he loved her.

"Hillary, I want to thank you —and I maybe shouldn’t do this publicly — but thank you personally for the way you have helped me, the way you’ve spoken up for me with such passion. I can’t tell you — you can ask Jill. Anyway, I love you."

Hillary can be seen in the video mouthing back, "Thank you." Jill Biden clapped as she watched the love fest unfold.

Steadfast support

As the turmoil from President Biden's disastrous debate with former President Donald Trump went into media overdrive, with many calling for Biden's ouster, the Clintons publicly defended him, which is what prompted the gratitude he showed to Hillary on stage.

The Post noted:

The former first couple stood behind Biden as other leading party leaders pressured him to step aside amid questions about his mental acuity — with that ultimately successful rebellion featuring former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on the side of the mutineers.

Until a day before Biden announced that he would drop out of the presidential race, the Clintons urged their supporters to continue donating to him.

The Clintons would later back Vice President Kamala Harris after she was anointed with the nomination.
