Donald Trump slams liberal comedian Bill Maher in Truth Social post

When former President Donald Trump takes criticism from a media personality, he rarely lets it go without a response.

That was definitely the case after liberal comedian and host Bill Maher took aim at the former president on the Russia collusion issue, claiming it was true and attempting to convince his "Real Time" audience that it's something President Joe Biden would never do.

According to the Daily Mail, Trump fired back in a big way using his Truth Social account, disparaging Maher's career and pointing to his show's continued low ratings.

Maher had also accused Trump of attempting to overthrow the U.S. government -- a reference to the Capitol protests on Jan. 6, 2021.

What's going on?

Maher has made a number of statements in recent months and years that have generated controversy from within the Democratic Party. But even though he'll call out his own party, he's still very much rabidly anti-Trump.

The former president responded to Maher's most recent round of criticism and falsehoods on his Truth Social account.

"Bill Maher, the highly overrated "Star" of the ratings challenged show with the Fake, Loud and Obnoxious laughter pouring out of your set every few seconds, even when nothing was said that was funny (which is most of the time!), suffers from a terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome," Trump wrote.

Trump added, "Republicans should stop using him as a reference point, his show is dead!"

The Daily Mail noted:

Hours before, Maher, 68, spoke not too fondly of the GOP's pick for president, painting him as a despot while engaging in a somewhat surprising defense of Biden, who he's previously panned as a not ideal candidate.

Maher's TDS level was on full display as he told guest and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo that he believes proseuctors shouls have focused on other cases instead of the "hush money" case against Trump.

"If they had just heard the one about trying to overthrow the government of the United States. That’s the main thing! He tried to overthrow the government of the United States! And we’re never going to hear that," Maher said.

Social media users react

Trump's comments about Maher generated plenty of feedback from social media users.

"Love you Mr. President Trump for always speaking the truth about these Tyrants," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "100% I have never agreed with Trump more."
