Interest in former first son Barron Trump has been on the rise in recent months, particularly in the wake of his high school graduation this spring and the emergence of a noticeably higher profile than in the past.

Public curiosity about Barron's interests and endeavors is heating up even further amid news of his involvement in his family's burgeoning cryptocurrency venture, though he was notably absent from a planned appearance at a Monday event designed to tout the new enterprise, as the Independent reports

Introductory event generates buzz

Much buildup had preceded the live-streamed event at which Donald Trump, Jr., Eric Trump, Barron Trump, and even former President Donald Trump were set to discuss the launch of World Liberty Financial (WLF).

WLF has been described as an online lending and banking platform meant to make cryptocurrency trading more simplified and accessible to everyday Americans with none of the “censorship” the Trumps believe characterizes many larger, more conventional banks.

Though a document obtained by CoinDesk indicated that Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. were slated to serve as “Web3 Ambassadors for WLF, and Barron Trump the “DeFi visionary,” few additional details were said to spring forward from the interview.

One aspect of WLF that did emerge was that the project will be tied to a “stablecoin,” or a digital currency with value linked to the U.S. dollar.

Barron gives event a miss

Despite significant anticipation of Barron Trump's participation in the event, the 18-year-old scion of the former president did not ultimately make an appearance.

Crypto entrepreneur Farokh Sarmad broke the unfortunate news to listeners, saying of Barron, “He's not here anymore, we took too long. We're gonna try and get him back.”

That prompted Donald Trump, Jr. to crack a joke about his half-brother's status when he exclaimed, “Damned teenagers!”

Trump, Jr. continued jocularly, “I'm like the old boomer now – the grumpy old man with a white beard.”

Proud dad praises son

Despite his non-attendance at Monday's event, Donald Trump has displayed great pride in recent months when it comes to his youngest child, who just began his freshman year at New York University's Stern School of Business, as the New York Post noted.

Just as impressive as Barron's acceptance into the prestigious school, in his father's estimation, is the young man's already-comprehensive understanding of the cryptocurrency world.

“Barron knows so much about this. Barron's a young guy, but he knows -- he talks about his [crypto] wallet, he's got four wallets or something, and I'll say, 'what is a wallet?' But he knows it inside out. It's almost like younger people know it a lot better than older people. But I have a lot of respect for them. They've shown great judgment, all of them.”

While he may have been missing from this week's crypto call, Barron Trump appears to be making his way slowly into the public sphere, as evidenced by his first appearance at one of his father's campaign rallies back in July, but whether he will take an even greater role in his dad's election bid as November approaches, only time will tell.
