Princess Anne, the younger sister of King Charles III, is in the hospital after getting injured by a horse but is doing "well."

The 73-year-old's absence will be felt at a time when the British royal family is in crisis, with two members battling cancer, King Charles and Princess Catherine of Wales. Anne has been the busiest member of the family, having logged 457 events last year.

Princess Anne hospitalized

As a result of her injuries, Anne is said to be suffering from short-term memory loss, The Telegraph reported.

She was not able to attend the King's state dinner with the emperor and empress of Japan on Tuesday, and her trip to Canada later this week was postponed.

Buckingham Palace announced the news of Anne's injury, saying she received a concussion Sunday while walking at her country estate, Gatcombe Park.

The injuries to her head appeared to be caused by a horse's head or legs, doctors determined. The palace said Anne was brought to the hospital as a precaution, describing the injuries as minor.

“The king has been kept closely informed and joins the whole royal family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the princess for a speedy recovery,” the palace said in a statement.

Husband shares update

In a bit of good news, Anne's husband Sir Tim Laurence said Tuesday that she is doing well after seeing her at the hospital in Bristol.

"She is recovering well, thank you. We are both profoundly grateful to the medical team and hospital support staff for their expert care - and to the emergency services who were all so wonderful at the scene," he said.

"We are both deeply touched by all the kind messages we have received from so many people near and far. It means a great deal."

The only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Anne is known for her energetic and unflappable personality. She famously rebuffed an armed kidnapper with the words, "Not bloody likely!"

The Olympic equestrian made an appearance at the King's birthday parade on June 15, when she received praise for getting a feisty horse under control.

The event also marked Princess Catherine's triumphant return to public life, months after she shocked the world with her cancer diagnosis.
