Walz isn't helping Harris in key swing state

The claim has been made by many that Vice President Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) in order to help her win some key swing states in his general region of the United States.

According to Fox News, however, it is looking less and less likely that Walz will be able to garner the support that Harris was expecting.

The outlet recently published a report in which it found that key voters in Dearborn, Michigan, are unlikely to support Harris, even with the selection of Walz.

To understand the importance of this, please, read on.

Background

The Democratic Party has shown itself to be deeply divided on the issue of Israel. While it is true that there are many Democratic politicians who are for Israel, it is also true that there are many Democratic voters who are against Israel.

This was a major problem for President Joe Biden before he ended his reelection campaign, and now it is a major problem for Harris.

The problem lies in the fact that some swing states have a sizeable population of individuals who are anti-Isreal. Michigan would be one example. It was in Dearborn that this population recently led an opposition movement to Biden's reelection.

There is little doubt that some thought that replacing Biden with Harris would help to solve this problem. And, there is little doubt that Harris chose Walz - rather than, for example, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) - to solve this problem.

But, it would appear that the Democrats' plan is not working.

"Nope"

Fox, for its report, spoke to, among others, Mike Hachem, whom the outlet describes as "a Dearborn leader of the Abandon Biden movement."

The outlet asked Hachem whether Harris's selection of Walz to be her running mate would make it more likely that the Abandon Biden movement would vote for Harris in the upcoming presidential election.

Hachem's blunt answer was "nope." He went on to explain why, saying, "He [Walz] means nothing for the Arab and Muslim community, especially in Michigan. He’s just a younger Joe Biden."

Hachem actually went so far, according to Fox, as to say that "there is nothing Harris can do to gain the support of much of the Dearborn community, noting the vice president actually moved in the wrong direction when she shouted down protesters who disrupted her remarks at the Detroit rally."

Other anti-Isreal groups, in contrast, have suggested that Harris could still earn their votes if she manages to push the White House, in the coming weeks, to do such things as to place an arms embargo on Isreal. We'll have to see how the situation plays out. But, it is looking like an uphill battle for Harris.
