Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, need every swing state they can possibly get to have a shot at beating former President Donald Trump. 

So, it baffled many as to why the Harris campaign and their surrogates suggested that Trump's upcoming visit to talk about crime in Howell, Michigan, was framed by the Harris campaign as being motivated by racism.

According to the New York Post, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) even slammed the small town in her own state, implying that it's a racist area, leaving residents stunned.

The Harris campaign is framing Trump's visit as him showing support for a small group of about a dozen young men who held up signs in front of the Livingston County Courthouse that claimed they "loved Hitler and Trump" and other signs that read "White Lives Matter."

What's going on?

Gov. Whitmer told ABC that she believes Trump's visit is motivated by racism, which any reasonable-thinking person would agree is the most asinine statement ever.

"Anyone who’s doing a little bit of research might have said, ‘That’s really a bad idea, look at the optics.’ You’re showing up where the KKK was just at the same time you’re in Michigan," Whitmer told the network at the Democratic National Convention.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign thinks Trump’s Tuesday event at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office in Howell, a city of 10,000 near Michigan’s major population centers, is a sign of solidarity with these young men.

Alyssa Bradley, a spokeswoman for the Harris campaign, made an equally stupid statement regarding Trump's upcoming visit to the area.

"The racists and white supremacists who marched in Trump’s name last month in Howell have all watched him praise Hitler, defend neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, and tell far-right extremists to ‘stand back and stand by,'" Bradley said.

She added, "Trump’s actions have encouraged them, and Michiganders can expect more of the same when he comes to town."

The sheriff responds

Trump's host for the event, Livingston County Sheriff Michael Murphy, wasn't thrilled with his town being labeled as "racist."

"I’ll call 100% bullsh-t on that," he told the Post.

"Frankly, I get a little bit fired up when people bring that up," the sheriff said, "We did have the Grand Dragon that lived here in Livingston County. But we somehow as a result of that got labeled with ‘racist, unwelcoming community,’ which truly couldn’t be further from the truth."

It just goes to show that Democrats will twist reality as much as it needs twisting if it makes Trump look bad.
