VP Harris deploys her young nieces to teach DNC audience how to say her name correctly

The Democratic National Convention was a bit bizarre this year, given that the party had just ousted President Joe Biden, its elderly, former nominee, and replaced him with Vice President Kamala Harris.

But Harris and her campaign attempted to take full advantage of the situation, and the vice president event brought out some family members to help teach people how to say her first name correctly.

You read that correctly -- instead of diving into policy and giving the American people her best voting pitch, Harris instead chose to use her nieces as props to help people pronounce her name.

Video of the moment, which was otherwise cute if it wasn't related to politics, was uploaded to social media.

What happened?

On the final night of the DNC, Harris deployed her otherwise adorable two nieces, Amara and Leela Ajagu. They joined actress Kerry Washington onstage at the Chicago convention to give a lesson saying the vice president's name in the correct manner.

Yahoo News noted:

The vice president, who is the Democratic Party's nominee for president, is the great-aunt of Amara and Leela, daughters of Meena Harris and granddaughters of the Kamala Harris' younger sister, Maya Harris.

The two young girls had the DNC audience roaring with applause.

The outlet noted that Amara is apparently already following in Harris' footsteps, noting in a previous interview that some of the first phrases revolved around "empowerment," including learning the phrase "Black power" and "phenomenal woman."

While her nieces stole the show for a few minutes, Harris was likely happy to have the spotlight off of her for any length of time, as she's still avoiding the press as if she's scared.

Social media reacts

Users across social media shared their reactions to Harris' nieces giving the DNC crows a lesson in pronunciation.

"Adorable. However, Harris still remains a threat to the country regardless," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "While they are adorable don’t you think someone running for president, who has been Veep for 3 1/2 years shouldn’t need to tell people how to pronounce her name?"

VP Harris also delivered one of the shortest acceptance speeches in DNC history, with her speech coming in at a rapid 38 minutes. In contrast, former President Donald Trump's acceptance speech was 92 minutes long.
