Florida congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R) was the target of a shooting threat just hours after President Trump dodged a second assassination attempt.

Luna, a well-known Trump supporter in Congress, said her office was targeted with a "very serious shooting threat" and asked for prayers.

Shooting threat against Republican

The 35-year-old blamed the threat on leftist rhetoric characterizing Donald Trump and his supporters as threats to democracy.

"This division and hate campaign against Republicans is going to get someone killed" Luna added. "I will not be threatened, intimidated, or bow down to those using violence as a means to push their agenda. We will win."

Luna said the threat came "hours" after a gunman attempted to kill Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The St. Petersburg Police confirmed that a threatening e-mail was sent to St. Petersburg College Sunday. The message did not name Luna directly but "contained information that relates to her."

The local police forwarded the threat to Capitol Police, Yolanda Fernandez of the St. Petersburg Police said.

Leftist rhetoric to blame?

Police had also sent patrols to Luna's neighborhood last weekend over a threatening comment somebody made on Facebook. The comment was left on the campaign page of her Democratic opponent Whitney Fox.

"If she is ‘hiding’ I know where she lives if anyone is interested in sending her a love letter or ……something," the person wrote.

The police paid a visit to the person, who is a neighbor of Luna's, and determined he is not an active threat, but police sent patrols as a precaution.

Luna blames Fox's rhetoric for the cascade of threats against her family and staff.

“It’s not fun,” Luna told the Florida Phoenix Monday. “My husband’s obviously concerned. I have a child. The fact is that I don’t think this rhetoric — it’s going to get someone killed.”

Fox - who has called Luna a threat to democracy - dismissed Luna's "false accusations" in a statement condemning political violence.

President Trump was unharmed in a second assassination attempt Sunday at his golf course in West Palm Beach. The attempt came weeks after he was bloodied by a shooter at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania in July.

Despite two attempts on Trump's life in recent weeks, some Democrats including Hillary Clinton have continued to use incendiary rhetoric painting him as an existential danger to the nation.
