The administration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris is still refusing to reveal to Congress what is going on with the unaccompanied minors that the government has lost track of.

Just the News reports that this latest information on the subject comes from U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

Grassley recently posted the following message on his X account:

Here's what is going on:

If you are unfamiliar with the situation, "unaccompanied minors" are children who show up at the U.S.-Mexico border without an adult.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services explains:

By law, HHS has custody and must provide care for each unaccompanied child, defined as a child who has no lawful immigration status in the United States; has not attained 18 years of age; and, with respect to whom, there is no parent or legal guardian in the United States, or no parent or legal guardian in the United States available to provide care and physical custody. See 6 U.S.C. §279(g)(2).

This situation is handled by the department's Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).

The problem, however, is that the ORR has not been upfront with Congress about what is going on. And there is a large number of unaccompanied minors that have essentially gone missing.

Grassley, in a recent press release, stated:

The Biden-Harris administration is failing to comply with Title 8, Section 1523 of the United States Code, which directs ORR to provide Congress annual reports on its refugee resettlement programs, including the location and status of unaccompanied migrant children in ORR’s Unaccompanied Children program.

Where are they?

One of the things that Grassley has taken exception to is the fact that the Biden-Harris administration claims that it is taking care of the situation, yet it has not provided Congress with any proof that it is doing so.

"How can President Biden or Border Czar Harris claim to be addressing this crisis when they can’t, or won’t, provide Congress statutorily required information on their efforts to do so?" Grassley wrote.

He added, "I’ve proposed reforms to address the glaring errors in this administration’s Unaccompanied Children program. It’s high time the Biden-Harris HHS let the sunshine in and show its work so that Congress can continue hammering out solutions based on the facts at hand."

Suffice it to say that this is not a good look for Harris, as the 2024 election draws nearer.

The southern border crisis could just be the issue that pushes former President Donald Trump over the finishing line.
