Biden: 'There's nothing wrong with me"
President Joe Biden recently ran into some trouble that many are suggesting could be the latest sign of his cognitive decline.
Biden, however, is disputing this, and the White House is doing its best to run damage control.
The incident, according to the Daily Mail, took place on Friday, when Biden visited the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona."
The only problem was that Biden was clearly no prepared for this event.
"The Gila . . . The Gila . . ."
The 81-year-old Biden, according to Daily Mail, ran into some serious difficulty pronouncing the name of the community.
Gov, thank you for that introduction. And to the Gila Indian River Community - the Gila...the Gila..." he said.
In politics, there are few things worse than a pandering politician, especially when that pandering politician cannot even pander properly. After Biden stumbled over the word "Gila" for several moment, he eventually tried to make a joke out of the situation.
"There's nothing wrong with me," he said, at which point the audience bailed him out by laughing. Biden then continued, "The Gila River Indian Community, for welcoming me today."
The Daily Mail called this " the latest in a series of fumbles by Biden since he was forced out of seeking re-election after a disastrous debate performance against [former President] Donald Trump."
Here is what Biden was doing in the Gila community:
You may be wondering what exactly Biden was doing in the Gila Indian River Community. According to reports, he was actually there to apologize for past government wrongs against the Native American people.
Biden said:
The federal government has never, never formally apologized for what happened — until today. I formally apologize as president of the United States of America for what we did. I formally apologize, and it’s long overdue. That’s simply far too long.
The Washington Examiner provides the relevant background.
Per the outlet:
At least 18,000 American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian children, some as young as 4 years of age, were taken from their parents and enrolled in the institutions from 1819 to the 1970s as part of an effort to assimilate them into white society. Almost a thousand died, and others experienced physical and emotional abuse, according to Haaland’s reports.
Unfortunately, the struggle with the word "Gila" was not Biden's only problem during the event. According to outlets, he also mistakenly referred to former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in the past tense, as if she was deceased.
