VP Harris exposed over her many mockable fake accents
Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee to be president, has been described by critics as among the most fake and inauthentic of all politicians, which makes it difficult for voters to determine who she genuinely is.
That task is made even tougher by the wide array of faux accents the California politician routinely deploys, largely dependent upon the demographic makeup of whatever audience she happens to be addressing at the time, according to the Daily Caller.
Indeed, while Harris' normal "default mode" manner of speaking has been compared to that of a "corporate white girl boss," the Democratic nominee easily has at least a half-dozen other fake accents that she will use from time to time to better fit in with and pander to certain demographic groups.
Different regional dialects
One of the fake accents that VP Harris seems to trot out most often is that of a black pastor in the style of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., which she most recently employed while addressing a crowd of supporters at a black church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, over the weekend.
Though there are some noted differences, there are also quite a few similarities between her preacher accent and the southern drawl she will use while speaking to audiences in southern states, be they Texas or Georgia or every state in between.
The highly educated and typically well-spoken Harris will at times also seem to deliberately dumb down her speech and enunciation as though she is a less-educated blue-collar worker, which she often uses when she talks to crowds of union workers and plays up her support for labor unions.
While Harris and her hardcore devotees may think those accents are endearing, they instead tend to come as insulting and likely decrease rather than increase her level of public support.
Fake foreign accents
VP Harris also has a few fake foreign accents that she will use occasionally in what she perceives to be a fitting situation, including a fake French accent she used during a 2021 visit to Paris.
Then there is the fake Jamaican accent Harris will inexplicably employ sometimes, though she at least has some sort of excuse for that given that her father was from Jamaica.
Likewise, Harris will sometimes emulate the way her mother from India would speak, such as while telling stories about her childhood.
One final example came during the Democratic candidate's speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, where she appeared to use a decidedly "Latina" accent to return the affection from some in the crowd. There are likely also a few more fake accents that Harris will use depending on the situation and her audience, and some of the above can sometimes sound interchangeable or be described in different ways, as is evident in a recent mashup video from the Washington Free Beacon.
"Code-switching" or political pandering?
Defenders and supporters of VP Harris will insist that what she is doing is a legitimate linguistic phenomenon known as "code-switching," in which speakers shift from one style of speaking to another, sometimes without meaning to, to better fit in with their audience or the context of the situation they find themselves in.
Yet, when otherwise educated politicians like Harris do it, particularly during a campaign season, it is illegitimate and inauthentic pandering for votes that is embarrassing and insulting and worthy of being mocked mercilessly.
