DANIEL VAUGHAN: Trump's Team Must Fire Anti-American Threats In The U.S. Government
The F.B.I. arrested and charged Asif W. Rahman with the leaking of classified intelligence relating to Israel to Iranian propaganda outlets. Rahman was arrested in Cambodia and is the person responsible for the intelligence leaks back in the middle of October, which showed Israel potentially preparing for a more extensive operation against Iran. This case is a good example of the kinds of people John Ratcliffe, Marco Rubio, and Tulsi Gabbard need to fire after their nominations.
The documents leaked by Rahman "were prepared by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, which analyzes images and information collected by U.S. spy satellites. It conducts work in support of clandestine and military operations."
To obtain that kind of intel, he needed classified access. According to The New York Times, Rahman "worked abroad for the C.IA., and court documents said he held a top-secret security clearance with access to sensitive compartmented information, which is typical for many C.I.A. employees who handle classified materials."
In the era of Snowden leaks and more, this is an inexcusable lapse in the C.I.A. and requires much more investigation. Some have used this story as an excuse to say that early accusations against the Iran influence ring for making these leaks prove that they shouldn't be touched. If anything, this story heightens the issue.
We'll learn more about Asif Rahman's motivations for leaking classified intelligence on Israel to the Iranians, though that seems self-explanatory on its face. The broader question is who needs their classified access stripped, and where are other weak spots?
At the top of that list is the "Iran influence operation." The Obama and Biden administrations have been rife with people overly friendly with the Iranian regime or actively involved in pushing its propaganda. Under the Obama administration, a version of this was blown up when the White House pushed the Iranian nuclear deal.
Semafor's investigation found multiple people in the Biden Administration with disturbing ties to Iran, with direct proof in the form of correspondence with the Iranian government. Whether it's Marco Rubio, John Ratcliffe, or anyone else in the Trump administration, the list of people to fire in our intelligence and diplomatic corps starts here.
The United States cannot sit idly by while foreign countries penetrate the government's defense, intelligence, and diplomatic agencies. The Obama administration outright sided with Iran because Obama viewed himself as a grand strategist trying to balance the Middle East through a rebuilt Iran. Biden clumsily tried to do the same.
Both Democratic Presidents empowered a despotic regime with proxies that have attacked and kidnapped American citizens and soldiers. And that's not mentioning the death and calamity they've brought to U.S. allies like Israel. These are not allies of America, nor will they ever be.
Donald Trump's administration needs to set about tearing out this Iranian influence ring from the roots. Fire everyone involved, and protect American interests. After that, we can look at rebuilding these institutions into what they need to be.
Firing the people directly involved will go a long way toward purging the United States government of bad actors across the board. It's not just because Iran is attacking Israel and America; Iran has actively sought to assassinate Donald Trump throughout this election process. If they're doing that, we should destroy their resources in the United States, starting at the root.
After firing everyone involved, the next step is tearing down the Biden administration's attempts to lock America into bad policies. Politico has actively reported how the Biden White House has sought to lock the United States into foreign policy decisions that Trump can't change. They call it "Trump-proofing" the government.
No bureaucracy can stand in the way of what the politically elected leadership wants to get done or the Congress orders. Bureaucrats are subservient to the entire government and have no say in the direction that political leaders choose. This is true whether it's a Republican, Democrat, or some other party in charge. Bureaucrats are to be seen and never heard from on any topic.
If the bureaucracy can't do that, they should resign or be fired. Donald Trump has a long road ahead to clean houses for many of these agencies. But after watching American secrets get released to Iran in an attempt to harm the United States and Israel, this is the easiest place to start. The firings should happen across the state, defense, and various intelligence agencies.
We don't need a Trump-proofed government; we need to bureaucrat-proof everything so that the government can function as intended. The left has talked a lot about the rule of law in recent years, but when an unaccountable bureaucracy tries to overrule the political process, it loses its voice.
Trump's task starts with cleaning the house. And the first people that need to get out are those leaking U.S. intelligence to Iran or actively supporting Iran or other countries. At a very minimum, that's what America First should mean - protecting this country over the interests of other regimes.
