FEC chairman blasts Biden-Harris DOJ over 'warning' letter to Elon Musk
Elon Musk, the brilliant mind he is, launched a pro-Trump PAC that resulted in great success, and part of that was his $1 million giveaway as a potential prize for people signing petitions in swing states.
Clearly a move that the Biden-Harris administration (and campaigns) were unhappy with, the DOJ ended up sending Musk a "warning" letter just weeks before Election Day, telling him his giveaway might be illegal.
According to the Washington Examiner, the chairman of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) recently took issue with the DOJ's warning letter to Musk, implying that it could have been a violation of election law to send it.
An investigation into the matter has been demanded by FEC Chairman Sean Cooksey.
What happened?
Musk received the warning letter from the Biden-Harris Justice Department weeks before one of the biggest elections in U.S. history.
The Examiner noted:
The letter, which was first reported by the New York Times, warned Musk’s America PAC that the $1 million giveaway he was offering to voters who signed his organization’s petition in support of constitutional freedom might violate the law.
Cooksey was furious about the letter, arguing that it amounted to voter intimidation and election interference in what he believes was a clear attempt to hamstring Trump's campaign in crucial swing states in the lead-up to Election Day.
"The underlying motivation behind this stunt is obvious,” Cooksey said after comparing the DOJ’s warning letter to the 1972 Watergate scandal.
He added, "Employees of President Biden’s Department of Justice wanted to stop an independent political committee from campaigning for President Trump in crucial swing states just prior to election day."
In addition, Cooksey believes the DOJ’s Public Integrity Section purposely leaked the letter to The New York Times, which could also be a violation of the department's media policies.
"Writing such a letter and then leaking it also violates the department’s long-standing policy against the identification of uncharged parties and the disclosure of prejudicial information," Cooksey added.
Musk is ready to change things
Trump recently announced that Musk, along with former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a project aimed at radically reducing government waste.
On Tuesday, Trump said, "Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies – Essential to the ‘Save America’ Movement."
There's no telling what their two brilliant minds will come up with, but millions of Americans are excited and hopeful to reap the rewards.
