Congress threats to revoke security clearances of intel officials who supported Hunter Biden laptop hoax
Some members of the U.S. Congress are threatening to revoke the security clearances of those intelligence officials who supported the infamous Hunter Biden laptop hoax.
The Washington Times reports "Several Republican lawmakers want Congress to strip the security clearances of dozens of former U.S. intelligence officials."
Many have argued, persuasively, that this ought to have already happened, given what these intelligence officials did.
We'll start off by getting you up to speed.
Background
This all related to the incident that occurred in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election.
The reader may remember that the New York Post published a bombshell story, in the weeks leading up to the 2020 presidential election, revealing information from Hunter Biden's alleged laptop.
The reader will also likely remember that the story was immediately surprised by the powers that be, including Big Tech and the mainstream media. They took their cue from a letter signed by 51 U.S. intelligence officials who claimed that the laptop was "Russian disinformation."
The thing is, though, that the laptop was not "Russian disinformation." It was the real deal, and U.S. intelligence knew that it was the real deal at the time that these officials claimed that it was not.
Subsequent polling has suggested that, if the American public had known the truth about the laptop, the 2020 presidential election would have turned out differently.
The latest
Despite all of this, these 51 intelligence officials, believe it or not, still have security clearances. Some on Congress are calling for these clearances to be revoked.
Among those to call for the revocation is U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC).
The Times reports:
Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said, “It should be an option” to yank the officials’ security clearances. Mr. Graham told The Washington Times that each official must be held accountable and that he plans on writing a letter to each one soon. He did not specify what the letter would say.
Whether or not it will actually happen, though, is another matter. Republicans certainly will have every opportunity to make it happen, considering that, in the 2024 presidential election, they won control of both the executive and legislative branches of the federal government. They also have a majority on the U.S. Supreme Court.
At the time of this writing, however, Breitbart News reports, "House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has not indicated if he will bring a measure to the House floor to fulfill the campaign promise."
