Musk comes out in favor of H1-B visas, igniting a dispute among Trump supporters
Over the weekend, Elon Musk boldly came out in favor of the H1-B visa program.
In fact, according to Breitbart News, Musk went so far as to tell those who do not support the program to "F*** yourself in the face."
This led to some chaos among supporters of President-Elect Donald Trump. Many seem to agree with Musk, while others clearly do not.
This, as we will see, forced Trump's hand, and, now, the president-elect has weighed in on the matter.
Here is how it all started:
This dispute began with Trump naming Siriam Krishnan to be his administration's senior policy adviser for artificial intelligence. This position will be in Trump's White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
According to Breitbart, this caused "a widespread debate over the H1-B visa program."
On one side of the debate are conservatives who "have slammed the program as “abusive” and said it is designed to undercut wages of white-collar Americans." On the other side are those who believe that it has helped to make America the great country that it is.
Musk entered the debate, and he came out in favor of the program. He wrote:
The reason I’m in America along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla and hundreds of other companies that made America strong is because of H1B. Take a big step back and F*** YOURSELF in the face. I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend.
Musk, here, was paraphrasing from the movie Tropic Thunder. But, suffice it to say, that he has received a lot of pushback from some of Trump's supporters, on this issue.
Trump picks his side
The big question, as the debate intensified, was what Trump's position on the H-1B program is. It is well known that Musk and Trump are now working closely together, so many wondered whether Trump would be with Musk or against Musk on this one.
Trump ended up siding with Musk.
"I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them," he told the New York Post.
Trump continued, "I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program."
Accordingly, it would seem that the H-1B visa program will be safe under Trump's incoming administration.
