Trump takes away Dr. Fauci's security detail

President Donald Trump has now removed the security detail of Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Fox News reports that Trump officially did so on Thursday night.

This is one of several similar moves made by Trump. On Friday, Trump gave his explanation for these decisions.

Before we get to that, however, we will look at what Trump has been up to.

Terminated

Over the past week - Trump's first week back in the Oval Office - various reports have been released revealing different individuals whose government-provided security has been removed.

Fauci is among these individuals, as is former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former National Security Adviser Johnson Bolton.

The latest termination to be reported is Fauci's. Fox reports:

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) requested security for Fauci in 2020 to protect him from threats he received as the top health official and public spokesperson during the COVID-19 pandemic. But that detail was pulled on Thursday night, CNN first reported.

Newsweek explains that it was former President Joe Biden who, during his administration, extended the security detail of each of these individuals.

Now, the political left has taken this story and ran with it.

Trump explains

Outlets such as the Associated Press are essentially claiming that Trump is trying to get these individuals killed.

In a recent report, the Associated Press wrote:

Trump, a Republican, earlier this week revoked protection details for former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his top aide, Brian Hook, as well as Bolton. All have faced threats from Iran since they took hard-line stances on the Islamic Republic during Trump’s first administration and fell out with him in the years after he left office in 2021.

What else would you expect from the likes of the Associated Press? Trump, for his part, is not too bothered about the situation. He made this clear during his recent trip to North Carolina, where he was asked about the situation.

A reporter specifically asked whether Trump would feel personally responsible should any harm come to the individuals whose security detail he removed. Trump said:

No. You know, they all made a lot of money. They can hire their own security. I can give them some good numbers. Certainly I would not take responsibility.

He added:

I think, you know, when you work for government, at some point your security detail comes off and, you know, you can't have them forever. We took some off other people, too, but you can't have a security detail for the rest of your life because you work for government.
