Chuck Todd is leaving NBC News

Chuck Todd, after nearly 20 years at NBC News, is parting ways with the outlet.

Todd revealed his decision, according to the Hollywood Reporter, in a memo that he sent to his NBC colleagues on Friday.

This is the latest shakeup in the mainstream media. It comes not long after Jim Accosta announced that he is leaving CNN.

It appears, however, that neither individual is leaving the news business - if you can call it that.

"Today is my last day at NBC"

In his memo, Todd said that Friday will be his last day at the network.

"Today is my last day at NBC. I started as political director in 2007, a month before my son was born and he’ll be graduating high school in a few months. So I guess this means I’ve been here a while," he wrote.

The big question that many want to know is why now. After all, this does seem to pretty much come out of nowhere.

Todd did not really answer this question head-on. Rather, he answered it indirectly, suggesting that he had other plans in the works.

He, in part, wrote:

There’s never a perfect time to leave a place that’s been a professional home for so long, but I’m pretty excited about a few new projects that are on the cusp of going from ‘pie in the sky’ to ‘near reality.' So I’m grateful for the chance to get a jump start on my next chapter during this important moment. The ChuckToddcast is also coming with me (thank you NBC). Stay tuned for an announcement about its new home soon.

"We wish him all the best"

Todd went on to say that he plans on continuing "to share my reporting and unique perspective of covering politics with data and history as important baselines in understanding where we were, where we are and where we’re going.

This comes after Todd had been at NBC for 18 years.

NBC has released a statement, saying:

We’re grateful for Chuck’s many contributions to our political coverage during his nearly two-decade career at NBC News and for his deep commitment to Meet the Press and its enduring legacy. We wish him all the best in his next endeavors.

This is one of several big-name shakeups that we have seen in the mainstream media in recent weeks.

The Daily Caller reports:

More veteran media hosts have exited their networks recently, most notably CNN’s Jim Acosta, who announced Tuesday that he was departing the network after nearly two decades after being asked to host his program during the midnight time slot.
