New poll shows positive approval for Trump's job performance, most policies
Much to the dismay of much of the media, President Donald Trump 2.0 has hit the ground running and, unlike in his first term, is broadly backed in much of his agenda with popular support from the American people.
A new CBS News poll shows that many of Trump's policies enjoy majority support, as does Trump himself with 53% approval, according to Breitbart.
The media outlet acknowledged that Trump's 53% approval rating at the start of his second term was the highest mark he'd ever received in their poll since he first emerged on the political scene 10 years ago.
Trump beating expectations on job performance, approval
Following a whirlwind first two weeks of President Trump's second term, CBS News surveyed 2,175 U.S. adults and, with a margin of error of 2.5%, found that he is performing better than expected and better than he has ever done with the general public.
As of last week, Trump had the approval of 53% of Americans while 47% disapproved of the job he has done thus far.
An overwhelming 90% said that Trump was doing as much (41%) or more than (49%) they expected in his first few weeks, and 70% feel that Trump is fulfilling the promises he made on the campaign trail.
His frenetic pace of non-nonsense executive activity, while baffling and upsetting to Democrats and the media, is also pleasing to the American, as reflected in the terms used to describe him, including "tough," "focused," "energetic," "effective," and "competent" -- descriptive terms that were rarely used with any seriousness for his predecessor.
Most of Trump's policies get strong approval
When it comes to President Trump's policies, the responses were a bit more mixed but generally favorable, and few if any were deeply unpopular with the respondents to the CBS News poll.
Most notably, 59% approve of the efforts to apprehend and deport illegal aliens, while 41% disapprove, and 64% support sending the U.S. military to reinforce the southern border, while 36% oppose the idea.
There is also slim majority support for the Department of Government Efficiency, led by tech billionaire Elon Musk, rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in federal spending, as a combined 51% think Musk and DOGE should have "some" (28%) or "a lot" (23%) of influence over government spending, compared to a combined 49% who believe their influence should be "not much" (18%) or "none" (31%).
Trump further enjoys plurality support for his efforts to end "diversity, equity, and inclusion" policies, cutting U.S. foreign aid, cutting government spending, and helping those who've suffered from natural disasters.
As for where Trump still needs to do more to impress the American people, solid majorities believe he hasn't done enough to combat inflation and reduce prices, and other than on China, most Americans disapprove of Trump imposing tariffs on allies like Canada, Mexico, and Europe, as they worry that those tariffs will result in even higher prices.
CBS poll leads the national average approval
As noted, President Trump's 53% approval is the highest it's ever been in a CBS News poll, and beyond that, it is higher than most other public polls.
According to the RealClearPolitics average of 10 major national polls, Trump has a 48.8% approval rating compared to 45.4% disapproval.
