Many observers expected that former U.S. Army Lt. Col. Daniel L. Davis would be made deputy director of national intelligence for mission integration.

However, President Donald Trump was credited by some for pulling Davis' nomination after the emergence of anti-Israel comments.

Davis' nomination was "was abruptly withdrawn"

Politico reported that Davis' nomination "was abruptly withdrawn" earlier this week amid criticism of his record regarding the Jewish state.

Specifically, Davis' nomination had been met with opposition from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which warned that "it would be extremely dangerous" for him to serve as deputy director of National Intelligence.

The organization accused him of having "diminished" the October 7 terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel which claimed some 1,400 lives.

It also alleged that Davis "undermined US support for Israel’s right to defend itself, and blatantly denies the grave threat the Iranian regime poses to global stability and American interests."

Davis called support for Israel's war "a stain on our character as a nation"

Meanwhile, the website Jewish Insider pointed to a series of social media posts in which Davis spoke disparagingly of Israel's war against Hamas.

He wrote in one post from January that such support amounts to "a stain on our character as a nation, as a culture, that will not soon go away."

The decision not to continue with Davis' appointment was welcomed by some conservatives, including author and radio personality Mark Levin.

"According to news reports, Mr. Davis will not be assuming the role of Tulsi Gabbard's Deputy DNI Director. Thanks goes to President Trump!" Levin wrote in an X post on Wednesday.

Role currently held by a Biden appointee

According to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, "Mission Integration (MI) creates a consistent and holistic view of intelligence from collection to analysis and serves as the DNI's principal advisor on all aspects of intelligence."

"MI integrates mission capabilities, informs enterprise resource and policy decisions, and ensures the delivery of timely, objective, accurate, and relevant intelligence," it adds.

Mission integration is currently overseen by acting Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Mission Integration Trent Maul, who was appointed in 2021 by then President Joe Biden.
