Republicans win Congressional Baseball Game for 5th time in a row
The Democrats can add another defeat to their string of recent losses.
The opposition party lost to the Republicans in the Congressional Baseball Game for the fifth time in a row, with the GOP taking it away 13-2.
The margin of victory was closer than usual, but the Dems still weren't able to break the GOP's winning streak.
Maybe it's their mindset? Republicans came decked out in matching MAGA caps, while the Democratic players wore individualized jerseys. They must have never heard the phrase "there's no I in team."
Dems lose baseball game
Democrats talked a big game before the event, predicting "MAGA tears." It didn't go like they planned, though.
“I probably shouldn’t say this, but I teasingly say that the Republicans are like the North Koreans. They live together, take cold showers and march around in their uniform. These guys are not that,” the Democratic coach, Rep. Linda T. Sánchez of California, said after the team’s practice last Thursday.
“We take it very seriously,” Rep. Roger Williams of Texas, the coach of the GOP team, said ahead of the game.
The GOP starting pitcher Greg Steube (Fl.) allowed two runs over the course of five innings. The Democrats' fielding was about as good as their defense of the city of Los Angeles, which is to say, not very good. After two innings, Republicans had five runs, and they ran up the score in the fourth and fifth.
Texas Republican August Pfluger won MVP after an impressive diving catch at third base that prevented Democrats from scoring in the first inning. The Dems had the bases loaded up when Pfluger got all acrobatic to secure the third out.
WHAT A PLAY: West Texas congressman August Pfluger makes a diving catch and gets the out at 3rd in the annual Congressional Baseball Game!! @RepPfluger was named MVP, as the Republicans beat the Democrats for the fifth year in a row, 13-2. ⚾️🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/J8izqo2MKI

Better luck next year, libs.
Record donations
There's more good news. This year's game raised a record $2.8 million for charity. So, Democrats can finally say they did something good for the country, even if they humiliated themselves in the process.
Since 1962, the GOP has won 38 times and Democrats have won 23 times.
The GOP won 2024's game 31-11, and they have won every game since 2021. There was no game in 2020 because of COVID.
