Musk now says Trump ally Steve Bannon was in Epstein files

Just weeks after accusing President Donald Trump of being in the "Epstein files," Elon Musk is now saying that Trump ally Steve Bannon is in them, and that Bannon coached Epstein in 2019 for a "60 Minutes" interview that never happened.

"Bannon is in the Epstein files," Musk posted Tuesday on X.

The comment was a response to another post by former Trump advisor turned critic Roger Stone, which asked, "Why would Bannon meet with Jeffrey Epstein both at his New York home and in Paris after Epstein was convicted on sex crimes in Florida? Why would he coach Epstein for his 60 minutes appearance?"

Bannon denial

Bannon has said he never media-coached anyone, including Epstein. The allegations that he did came from a Michael Wolff book "Too Famous: The Rich, the Powerful, the Wishful, the Notorious, the Damned."

According to Bannon, his meeting with Epstein was for a documentary that was meant to expose him for how he exploited and mistreated young girls and women.

Trump and Musk had been buddy-buddy until a few weeks ago, when Musk began to oppose Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill."

Ostensibly, Musk objected to the $4 trillion in new deficit spending in the bill, but some have said he was angry because the electric vehicle mandate that would have greatly benefited his company Tesla was cut from it.

Musk apology

After accusing Trump of being in the Epstein files, Musk quickly apologized and said the accusation went too far.

That was big of him, but it doesn't do much to boost his credibility in the current instance, so we'll have to see how it plays out.

Was he just lashing out once again, this time at a Trump surrogate? Does he actually know something, or is he just responding to unproven allegations?

For Musk, his bottom line is what he posted on Tuesday: "How can people be expected to have faith in Trump if he won't release the Epstein files?"

Obviously, he has some trust issues with Trump, but it seems like he's grasping at straws with the Epstein stuff.

There are definitely some high-profile people who were associated with Epstein, and they obviously don't want their activities to come to light. What that has to do with Trump is still a valid question, however.
