Earlier this year, President Donald Trump appointed former Fox News producer Ariel Abergel to head America250, the organization which is planning the country's 250th birthday celebration.

However, Trump's pick was abruptly fired this week for what Abergel claims was an unauthorized post concerning slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk. 

Abergel was fired by members of bipartisan commission

That's according to the Daily Mail, which explained on Tuesday that Abergel was removed by the bipartisan US Semiquincentennial Commission.

The newspaper pointed out how in addition to conservatives like Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the commission also includes figures such as California Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla.

Padilla has long been a vocal critic of Trump and accused the president of being a "tyrant" while giving an emotional speech in June.

The Daily Mail noted that an America250 spokesperson released a statement which defended the decision to remove Abergel from his post.

Spokesperson says Abergel caused "security breach"

She alleged that he "initiated a security breach of a commission social-media account, attempted to procure the resignations of multiple commissioners by misrepresenting himself as acting on behalf of Congressional leadership, and engaged in multiple other serious and repeated breaches of authority and trust."

The spokesperson further maintained that Abergel had defied "directives from the Commission's executive committee."

What's more, she further alleged that he had engaged "in unauthorized actions related to Commission approved programming, finances, and communications, jeopardizing the Commission's operations and reputation."

However, Abergel countered that his firing stemmed from his decision to put a social media post honoring Kirk following the activist's murder.

Abergel accuses commission of spreading "malicious lies" about his firing

Abergel told the Wall Street Journal that he urged the commission to put out a statement regarding Kirk and then did so on his own accord after no decision was made.

"America is in mourning. God bless Charlie Kirk," the post read. What's more, Abergel slammed what he referred to as "malicious lies" meant to "distract from the truth" of his dismissal.

The Daily Mail observed how White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly was quick to voice support for Abergel in a statement of her own.

She indicated that the Trump administration is "incredibly proud of all of Ari Abergel's work at America250 - most notably during the Army250 parade, which boldly honored the bravery and strength of our military men and women."
