Harry and Meghan’s Archewell quietly trims staff as Hollywood ventures stall

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have quietly cut Archewell Productions staff to a handful of employees as their Netflix projects stall and Hollywood ambitions lose steam.

An insider told Page Six the couple reduced staffing at their production company over the last 12 to 18 months. Archewell Productions now runs with just a handful of people at its Raleigh Studios offices in Los Angeles.

The cuts hit production crews hired for specific projects such as the lifestyle series “With Love, Meghan” and the earlier “Harry & Meghan” docuseries. Full-time Archewell Productions employees were not the main target. The Hollywood office remains open, and workers still come and go from the building.

Reps for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not respond to requests for comment on the downsizing.

The couple launched Archewell Productions in 2020 after stepping back from senior working roles in the royal family. In 2022 the company delivered the six-part Netflix series “Harry & Meghan.” Their lifestyle show has not been renewed for a third season, though the possibility of future specials has not been ruled out.

Netflix strain and earlier project cuts pile up

Variety reported in March that Archewell Productions had struggled to deliver successful programming and that the Netflix relationship had grown increasingly strained. Two highly anticipated movie projects earlier reported by Page Six remain stuck in limbo.

Those troubles fit a longer pattern. In 2022 Breitbart reported Netflix axed the couple’s planned animated series then known as Pearl, part of wider cuts after the streamer lost hundreds of thousands of subscribers and saw its stock drop sharply. Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings summed up the austerity push at the time: “Well, it’s a b****.”

The same commercial pressure has reached the couple’s separate charitable arm. Page Six reported in December 2025 that Archewell Philanthropies, formerly the Archewell Foundation, let three employees go during a restructuring meant to lower operating costs. A spokesperson called the reductions “inevitable.”

UK return follows Montecito chapter

Harry, 42, and Markle, 45, have been spending more time in the United Kingdom after deciding to relocate from their Montecito, California estate. On Thursday they made their first official joint outing since the return, appearing in Nottingham around 10:35 a.m. Markle told one well-wisher, “it’s great to be back.”

That homecoming lands against a backdrop of firm palace boundaries. King Charles has drawn a clear line that the pair return as private citizens, not working royals.

Family tensions remain part of the public record. Reports have described Charles offering hospitality even as other branches of the family keep harder positions on reconciliation, including accounts that the king floated a Buckingham Palace room amid the friction.

American political reaction to their U.S. exit has been blunt as well. President Trump said he was “happy” the couple left the United States and would not have welcomed them back.

Markle has also seen separate professional pushback tied to British public sentiment. One recent account held that she was dropped from a Guy Ritchie Netflix project after fierce backlash at home.

Office lights stay on, headcount does not

Archewell Productions still keeps its Los Angeles footprint. Yet the shift from a busy production slate to a skeleton crew of project hires marks a clear contraction from the ambitious launch five years ago.

The Sussexes left royal duty promising a new media and philanthropic empire built on their own terms. Staffing rolls at both the production company and the charity have now moved in the opposite direction while major streaming projects sit unfinished or unrenewed.

Hollywood rarely rewards unfinished business. The handful of remaining badges at Raleigh Studios show how far the original bet has narrowed.
