DANIEL VAUGHAN: Justin Trudeau Is Out And The Free World Rejoices
Justin Trudeau is resigning in Canada, and it is a great day for Canadians, North America, and the free world. Trudeau has overseen a leftward tilt of Canada so extreme that the country is not recognizable from where it was. The decade-plus grip Trudeau has had on national and international politics is over.
When Joe Biden stepped aside over the summer and endorsed Kamala Harris, he did so because it was transparently clear to everyone that he could not do the job required of him. Biden hasn't admitted that, nor have most Democrats, but that was the overwhelming takeaway after the first and last debate between Biden and Trump.
That's embarrassing for Biden, but it wasn't seen as a wholesale rejection of the Democratic Party's policies. That would come later in the November elections.
Justin Trudeau can claim nothing similar. There's no health disability removing him from the world stage. He's run out of support and time within his own party and the country as a whole. Justin Trudeau is resigning because he has become a failure and the laughingstock of his country - everyone wants him gone.
How unpopular is he? He suspended Parliament to avoid how bad it could be. The Wall Street Journal reports, "Trudeau said he would stay on as prime minister until the party picks a new leader, a process that could take months. He also moved to suspend the current session of the legislature to avoid facing a no-confidence vote in Parliament."
The Journal adds, "Trudeau is the latest standard-bearer for progressive politics to suffer from a voter backlash, amid economic retreat, discontent with aggressive climate policies and a growing resistance to immigration."
Trudeau is the definition of a liberal progressive's dream. He's pushed every policy preference they could want, and his excesses have led to an extreme backlash. Canada touts its government-run healthcare program but tries to spin its way out of the government, causing state-run euthanasia to become the fifth leading cause of death in the country.
Canada went from banning euthanasia before Trudeau to creating an express lane for it.
Farmers and truckers in Canada have spent years protesting the gross extremes of government overreach in Canada. Trudeau's lockdown policies were a boon for the rich and white-collar working class but shoved the blue-collar vote to the sidelines. If you had to actually work in the world, you were blasted under Trudeau.
Trudeau saw this inequity and called it a good thing. He used government power to try to crush dissent within Canada. He invoked Canada's "War Powers Act" to get rid of protestors, something Canada's legal system had to step in and stop.
Justin Trudeau is a petty progressive tyrant in every definition of the phrase. On one side of his mouth, he evokes great love for country and freedom while embracing the harshest of state power on the other. Canadians have suffered as a result.
Canada is nowhere near the economic powerhouse that the United States is and depends heavily on America for economic production. When Donald Trump threatened to pull the plug on this cash pipeline to Canada, suddenly Trudeau couldn't stand on his own two feet.
He was one of the earliest people at Mar-A-Lago to grovel at Trump's feet to try to save his premiership. Fortunately for Americans and Canadians, Trump saw through this charade and humiliated Trudeau. He jokingly called Trudeau a possible governor for Canada, suggesting America needed to take the country over. Trump reiterated the joke when Trudeau resigned.
Trudeau destroyed Canada under his watch and has no legacy to point to. He's a failure whose more than a decade at the top of politics in this hemisphere will go down in infamy. Germany is grappling with the realization that Angela Merkel was a disaster, and Canada is realizing the same with Trudeau.
Leadership matters. It matters who is calling the shots, and the progressive movement is now facing a backlash across the globe. That's not to say we know that those on the opposite will necessarily fix all the problems of their countries, but it is to say that we're witnessing a full-blown backlash to progressive excesses and the inflation that's forced on everyone.
No one has earned the honors better than of being the face of that backlash than Justin Trudeau. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have their place in this, too. But Biden's age masks many problems for Democrats. Justin Trudeau has no such cover. He's just a failure.
He's earned that moniker, and Canadians should send him to the dustbin of their history.
