ABC News rejects Kamala Harris's sudden rule change request for debate

Vice President Kamala Harris has come to the point where the rubber meets the road and she's trying fervently to put the breaks on what many believe will be a huge embarrassment for her candidacy.

Following taking over the top spot on the Democrat ticket for the 2024 presidential election, Harris chose to continue on former candidate and current President Joe Biden's debate schedule, and now she's about to face former President Donald Trump on stage before America.

According to a report by Breitbart News, it turns out that Harris now has some concessions she would like made, to create a more helpful environment for her during the upcoming debate, but the network isn't having it.

From the Network

ABC News announced on Thursday that the presidential debate on September 10 will be conducted with muted microphones, dismissing Vice President Kamala Harris's last-minute attempt to modify the regulations.

This means that the non-addressed candidate will not be able to cut off the candidate answering a question. The announcement supports allegations that the Harris campaign sought to divert attention from the third anniversary of the Biden-Harris administration's fatal Afghan withdrawal by directing the media's attention to debate drama.

The announcement further demonstrates that the Harris campaign is trying to prepare for a potentially bad outcome from her recent interview on CNN.

“At this point, Team Harris is going to be taking an ‘L’ when they finally accept, as the debate rules aren’t changing, or they’ll take an even bigger ‘L’ if they back out of the debate because the Dana Bash/CNN interview goes poorly,” a top Trump ally told Breitbart News.

Previous Contention

The controversy surrounding the debate dates back to the time when President Joe Biden was still a candidate. Previously, the two candidates reached an agreement on two debates: CNN on June 27 and ABC on September 10.

The race was subsequently entered by Harris, but the Trump ally stated that the Trump and Harris campaigns had both submitted the debate rules to ABC News in writing last week and both parties verified to the network that the debate was a go.

The Harris campaign requested on Sunday that ABC News and other networks unmute candidates' microphones in order to reportedly prevent an excessive amount of media attention on the anniversary of the murderous Afghan withdrawal in the upcoming week. Trump continued to oppose this idea on Tuesday.

“I have reached an agreement with the Radical Left Democrats for a Debate with Comrade Kamala Harris. It will be Broadcast Live on ABC FAKE NEWS, by far the nastiest and most unfair newscaster in the business, on Tuesday, September 10th, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,” Trump said.

From Harris

On Wednesday, the Harris campaign persisted in its refusal to consent to the use of muted microphones during the ABC debate on September 10.

Politico Playbook was informed by an individual who is acquainted with Harris's negotiations that Harris requests an unmuted microphone to prevent her from word salads.

“She’s more than happy to have exchanges with him if he tries to interrupt her,” the person said. “And given how shook he seems by her, he’s very prone to having intemperate outbursts and … I think the campaign would want viewers to hear [that].”
