Acting U.S. attorney resigns over decision to drop charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams
New York City Mayor Eric Adams made headlines last year when he was indicted by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on corruption charges.
However, the White House's decision to drop those charges prompted one official to submit her resignation.
Acting U.S. attorney says dropping charges is "inconsistent" with her duty
According to Breitbart, acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Danielle Sassoon sent a letter on Wednesday to Attorney General Pam Bondi.
In it, Sassoon denounced instructions from acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove to not prosecute Adams, alleging that they were politically motivated.

She maintained that dropping the charges against Adams would be "inconsistent with my ability and duty to prosecute federal crimes without fear or favor and to advance good-faith arguments before the courts."
Sassoon concluded by saying that she was prepared to leave the DOJ if Bondi could not address her concerns regarding the case.
DOJ accused Adams of taking bribes from Turkey
A DOJ press release put out this past September accused Adams of providing the Turkish government with political favors in exchange for campaign donations as well as expensive overseas trips.
"As alleged, Mayor Adams abused his position as this City’s highest elected official, and before that as Brooklyn Borough President, to take bribes and solicit illegal campaign contributions," U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said.
"By allegedly taking improper and illegal benefits from foreign nationals—including to allow a Manhattan skyscraper to open without a fire inspection—Adams put the interests of his benefactors, including a foreign official, above those of his constituents," Williams continued.
"This Office and our partners at the FBI and DOI will continue to pursue corruption anywhere in this City, especially when that corruption takes the form of illegal foreign influence on our democratic system," the U.S. attorney went on to insist.
Trump said Adam's charges were retaliation for criticizing Joe Biden
However, President Donald Trump asserted that Adam's indictment was itself a politically motivated attack on the part of the Biden administration.
Specifically, Trump maintained that New York's mayor was being targeted for having spoken out against President Joe Biden's border security failures.
"I watched about a year ago when he talked about how the illegal migrants are hurting our city and the federal government should pay us and we shouldn’t have to take them, and I said 'you know what, he’ll be indicted within the year' and I was exactly right," the Independent quoted Trump as saying.
