Barack Obama's half-brother Malik is backing Trump to be president again

Former President Barack Obama unsurprisingly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris when she was elevated to become the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden ended his re-election bid.

The former Democratic president's half-brother from Africa, however, Malik Obama, sees things differently and has endorsed the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump, the WokeSpy reported.

That endorsement wasn't much of a shock, either, as Malik previously backed Trump in both the 2016 and 2020 elections.

Obama's brother backs Trump

In an X post on Wednesday, Malik Obama wrote, "I am Malik Obama. I'm a registered Republican and I'm voting for President Donald Trump."

As noted, the announcement came as no surprise, given that the bulk of posts on his X account were decidedly pro-Trump and against VP Harris and President Biden.

Nor is it surprising that Malik holds different political views than his half-brother Barack, as the two have found themselves on the opposite side of the partisan divide ever since Barack entered the political realm, according to Shore News Network.

Indeed, while once relatively close -- Malik reportedly served as Barack's best man in his wedding to former first lady Michelle -- they have drifted apart over the years, and Malik, a Kenyan national, has previously complained of feeling like he and his Kenyan family have been "rejected" by his "fake" American half-brother.

Thus, Malik has been highly critical of Barack for the past decade or so -- though Barack rarely responds to the criticism -- and has been quite outspoken in his support for Trump and the Republican Party.

Walz's cousins endorse Trump

Nor is this the only political family feud involving candidates in the 2024 race, as relatives of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, have reportedly also signaled their support for the Republican ticket, according to the Independent.

A recent viral social media post showed a group of eight individuals who claimed to be part of Walz's extended family in Nebraska and all posed together wearing shirts in support of former President Trump.

Those individuals were reported to be second cousins of the VP candidate by way of their grandfather being the brother of the governor's grandfather. It is unclear, however, how close the extended Walz family is or if the Minnesota governor is even familiar with his distant relatives in Nebraska.

Walz's brother doesn't support him

Yet, it doesn't end there, as the Independent further reported that a much closer relative to Gov. Walz, his brother Jeff Walz, also recently indicated on social media that he doesn't support the current Democratic vice presidential nominee, who he described as "not the type of character you want making decisions about your future."

That said, when pressed by some to publicly share the "stories" he had about his brother and to endorse former President Trump, Jeff opted against doing so as he and his immediate family had no intent of getting publicly involved in the partisan fight over the presidency.

Even still, it was made clear that the brothers differed politically and the one does not support the other's bid for higher office.
